The famous Lynn Pierce stall offense...you know when he coached in the 80's and had such great runs with Provins, Marlow, Carroll, Garner, etc. he didn't do that crap. with players of that caliber a coach doesn't have to do that "crap"... the talent level has droped off tremendously...even in teh few years when there was a bit of talent the depth wasnt there...throughout the 80's and into the mid 90's the bench played a major role in the success of teh program...in most recent years, many (not all) of teh starters could not have made teh bench in the aforementioned years... the substate team of a few years back could not have competed with the teams of the mid 90's when the three/four year run of district titles were won...of course that is just my opinion, but I remember because I was there for most every game, home and away during these times...

That is true Peeb...I am a little different though with a weak team I attack...when you aren't very good I don't want you trying to handle and pass the ball...hahahaha. I agree with you about those teams...talent hasn't even been close in recent years.

I think he has...the talent level has been way down. Hunley was not coaching all of those teams. Pierce was doing fine when he had the afore mentioned Marlow, Garner, and crew...that doesn't make him a great coach either, but his tenure did see some great teams come through CCHS.

Peebs, Look at who was coaching those teams, Rick Hunley. Yes I will admit the talent level has not been there, but look at how many kids that the current head coach has ran off. It is hard to develop depth when you have a freshman class that comes in with 11 and ends up with 2 being seniors. Does all the blame go on the coach,NO. But it seems like to me once a kid gets past a sophmore, than he loses interest in them. Question Peebs, Honestly, Over the past 5 years do you think Pierce has gotten everything he could out of those teams? Numbers generally don't lie and only having 2 out of 11, sounds like a problem somewhere. No way that he has gotten the most out of those teams. This sophomore class is pretty good and if he remains and doesn't have some success with them, things really start to look bad, don't you think?

I am not a big fan of teh "weave/slow down game"....I have talked to Coach Pierce about this on several occasions over the past few years...his philosophy on that offense is hang close until the appropriate time and tehn go into that style of offense hoping to get to the foul line or get some easy backdoor cuts to teh basket... that is his philosophy.... every coach has a philosophy or style... I am not sure why some of teh players leave the team after they enter high school...I do know that some were not on the team because they did njot wnat to do the summer workout thing...off season workouts are a necessity in HS football and basketball...if a player does not want to commit to teh sport then that player is not a team player...I do know that are exceptions to every rule but some effort has to be expected during the off season...when it is apparent that a player is not attending off season workouts for a "non excusable" rason, I say cut him...that is why I was never a steve mcnair fan...he couldnt practice because he was "hurt" (usualy a big toe injury), but he could compete and play full sped ahead on sundays...I just used that as asn example...
and zookster to answer your question, you already know how I feel about coach pierce...no, he probably hasnt gotten the most out of his limited talent over the past few years...but then again I am not sure what else he could hae done...I wasnt at the practices to see what was going on... I do like coach pierces philosophy of "if you dont like teh way the program is being run it is best to leave" because he wasnt going to change or take pressure or heat from any outsiders... to quote two rules (whether we like them or not): rule number one teh coach is always right... rule number two: when in doubt refer to rule number one...
unfortunately it is up to the administration to hire and fire basketball coaches...that authority is usually delegated to someone else...and by administration I mean the head duck or she duck in this case... teh principals recommendation and teh AD's recommendation carry little or no weight in CC... BELIEVE ME...I KNOW THIS BECAUSE I EXPERIENCED IT!!!! LOL!!!

I can see and understand you completely zookster...I dont think we have ever had a serious disagreement about anything, sports-wise or any "other-wise"... I totally respect you for accepting coach pierces philosophy/instructions as a player...you were without a doubt a true team player/man!!!!

I just thought I would bring this thread back to the forefront...and let some of the new comers read what was said BEFORE the 7 players quit. It's kinda funny to read now what some of the same ones said at the beginning of basketball season! I guess some are afraid to actually speak their mind and stay with it.

Anyone who does that is now following my lead. The Peirce followers are only willing to look at things from one side and when a current player messages you tellin you that you have no right to give someone respect, i think thats the time that things are out of hand.

....tsk....tsk....if coach P went to your "Club" then you would be a die hard Pierce follower...Right is Right, and wrong is wrong...if you do a little reading in THE book then you would be able to tell the difference.
