The only way Jody Wright would take the job is if he was tired of having teams go to the final 4 every year and really wanted to see if its the coaching or is it the talent. Hes won over 325 games with a bunch of talent, now come up here and see if you can win 325 with mediocre talent and you are the scott county of your leauge and not the Fultons.

I would love to see jody wright up here. I think he could win up here. We always have talent in basketball. We should always be competitive in the district. I couldnt see Mike Reynolds coaching, but I could be wrong.

Mike Reyonlds isn't qualified under state guidelines. Sorry. I know Jody and have for I guess as long as I can remember. Jody is WAY TO SMART to take the job. He is secure in his position now. He is not going to give that up knowing Campbell County and the way this system works. For anyone who is actually concerned about the kids in all of this, you should have fire coming from your ears ... and I'm not just talking about the kids who are at the high school now, I'm talking about the 5th, 6th, 7th graders and so on .... even the little 5 year olds playing jr pro. It WILL effect everybody. Isn't it sad when the ignorance of adults hurt innocent children. This county will never bring about positive change until house is cleaned at the central office and school board. They are the ones who make final decisions and are simply not knowlegeable in doing so. Either that, or they think we, the citizens of Campbell County are too stupid to understand what is happening or to do anything about it. It's time to stand up people of Campbell County and take back the power that rightfully belongs to you. We can fuss and complain and fuss and complain but until we act on something ... nothing will happen. Please remember that the school board members work for us ... someone somewhere down the line forgot to tell them that! Let's take back our county! If anything, let's do it for the children.

Playthegame, you may have hit the nail on the head with your comments about not being able to find a new coach. I will give you a little history lesson on the way Len Pierce became the coach again at CCHS. When they were looking for a new coach they offered it to all the usuall suspects and they all said NO. They then went to Len and he saidNO. They then went to a couple coaches in Claiborne county and they said NO. then back to Len, NO. they then asked a couple of coaches in Knoxville if they or anyone they knew might want the job and they laughed and said NO. They then went back to Len and asked him what it would take to take the job back cause they couldnt find anyone, and he told them and they agreed and the rest is history. Beleive me, Len wont miss it a bit and it will be a releif to him. He used to be a good coach with alot of passion, but he coached for so long and so hard he got burnt out and really didnt want the job and it showed. To coach and do a good job at the high school level you have to have the dedication and obligation to your kids to get them to college. this would include films, dvds, letters, emails, whatever it takes. So you better be prepared to spend a lot of time away from your family.just some thoughts

I agree whole-heartedly .... the jungle seems to have some sense. Don't you believe they will take the same route to find a new coach this time? Only, one of the men who would like to have the position won't get it (inside stuff I know). That will be a disappointment to him knowing that he has been promised it if all of what has happened took place. Boy is he going to be disappointed. Like I have said before, individuals who could do a good job WILL NOT even consider it after the way things have been handled. The board and central office have cut their own throats on this one. The parents who wanted Len out and "a certain person" in are going to be disappointed when they only get half of their wish and then the other half turns out to be a nightmare for them. I don't think they ever thought about that. What happens if the "replacement coach" (if we even get one) turns out to be someone they want to get rid of as well?? The whole process starts over ... and of course now that precedent has been set, it MUST be continued (by reason of the law) or the county is open for many law suits. What a mess, mess, mess, and as I said before, who will pay for it? The kids. ATTENTION ALL PARENTS WITH YOUNG CHILDREN ......... think long and hard before enrolling your child in a campbell county school .... they are the ones who always get hurt ..... AND, look at the bad influence your child is being taught in this county ... lies ... blackmail .... is this how you want your child believing that things should be? Also, I know Len loves coaching and believe it or not, he loves his boys. But I'm sure you are right... he will enjoy his free time now as well. I have seen his daughter numerous times at the games with her baby. He will probably enjoy getting to spend more time with his little grandchild now. Almost forgot ...... I agree 110% that a highschool level coach has to dedicate time and effort to getting kids into colleges. I have had personal experience with a football coach and a baseball coach where they were asked many times to "help out" once the parent already had the ball rolling for a scholarship. They didn't even respond. Both boys did get a scholarship .. but it took parents etc. getting the recruiters here and making things happen. Sad huh? Ask if the coach took any credit for it .............

No coach in their right mind takes this job now. Sometimes losing a coaching job is a blessing in disguise.

If that is the case I am glad they let him finsih out the season. I know as much as I hated all the times I quit or was forced out of coaching I evnetually found it relaxing to have all that free time and none of that stress. If it is true I hope we can find a coach that is willing to come in and coach at CCHS. I just hope that whoever takes the risk of coaching a "parentally controlled" team will actually be allowed to coach without worrying if parental pressure will force him to be pupet of the parents...

well, well, looks like me coming on this board & talkin bout stuff like this is ok. Apparently I wasnt the only one who felt this way. I hope people wont get so pissed when I bring up stuff like this in the future. I hate to hear that anyone loses a job, but sports is competition & winning is the goal. I think it was handled in a good manner if this is true, the season is over and they have plenty of time to find a replacement. That also makes it fair to the kids. trust me...your so-called "explosive imput" had nothing to do with it...higher up administration (central office head) kept her word by having a lower ranking staff member tell G Seal that he had to do teh dastardly deed...they will go after him next I believe (gut feeling),,,was disappointed to hear that a certain school board employee (possibly a teacher / administration person) was directly involved)...some parents make me want to throw up...hope they hire the man that will let their kid play...

There are alot of opinions both ways on Hunley. I like Rick and think he is a good coach. He was blessed with tons of talent over the years at the high school and the middle school. He learned basketball from one Robert "Teach" Petrey and he was probably the best and most underrated coach in the county. Anybody who I have talked to that played for Teach swore by him and his system. Pat, I didn't know that Hunley learned from Coach Petrey. I went to Wynn while he was there and you are right he was a master at fundamentals and Wynn ALWAYS had great teams that competed for district titles. Back then 1A was really strong. Most of those schools are gone now. Coach Petrey was great! He and Coach Kitts produced some great talent out of Wynn. coach hunley played HS ball at old LaFollette HS...like many coaches he learned from a wide variety of coaches...a ggo dcoach will seek answers/advice from others in the same profession, attend clinics, and even take ideas being used by the coaches of rival schools...

pat .... what's wrong with ya boy ... you know me .. and know me well ...... all you ever had to do was call or email and you could have all the REAL facts you want or need .... the rumors going around are hilarious ..... as far as the situation itself one can only say "only in campbell county" and by this i certainly don't mean the dismissal of Pierce, but the manner in which ALL things fall out ... it WOULD NOT surprise me if they couldn't find a replacement for the head coaching job ... i understand that many may not have the experience to see what has now happened, but, those of us individuals who have been around realize that those who might could or would coach wouldn't touch the job with a ten foot pole .... you see, if you actually know the facts and the reasoning on paper as to why Mr. Pierce was asked to step aside (and sorry to disappoint anyone but it isn't due to losses .. had that been the case their would have to be replacements in 90% of the coaching positions in CC) you would know that now .. in this county alone .... any coaching or non-tenured (working towards tenured) position is in danger .. therefore NOBODY who is knowledgable about how things actually work would touch the job .. not just the coaching job, but ANY job within the educational system of Campbell County ... as a matter of fact this situation alone will hurt the quality of new teachers hired in the county ... there are too many other counties where you can be employeed where you know things are done by the book something the higher-ups haven't heard of ...... what is REALLY going to be interesting is to see HOW MANY new coaching positions are filled in the months to come ... pat, you and i both know what just might happen at this point ..... think about it .... i'd bet the farm that i know of one or more who were PRAYING that this DIDN'T happen to L. Pierce..... because if it did ... oooohhhhh .... there may be more than another coaching position gone ..... i can honestly say that i don't think that some of those who were pulling sooo hard to get rid of Len thought about what might, could and can happen to the coaches who they are such big buddies with .... and that would be a decision not made by ever so talented school board, but in a courtroom, or maybe simply just behind the closed door of the state department of education ..... it seems now that the state is quickly becoming quite interested in the present as well as PAST happenings in campbell county ..... and anyone who actually trusts CC's school board or central office staff when they have said .. "oh, this person or that doesn't have anything to worry about"..... needs to think again ... there are some things they have no control over , no matter how much they like to think they do .... tenure is for teaching positions only...coaches can nt receive/earn tenure in their coaching jobs...as you have so aptly stated, a coaching position is only safe if you keep the right people happy...I really do not think that other coaches have anything to fear because of the handling of the basketball situation...there is no"panel of fear" that is openly working to oust any other coaches to my knowledge...they might be working secretly...LOL...in Campbell County...will never happen...someone on these "lynch mob factors/we will show him he cant do that to our kids " factions always brags and spills the beans... my sources (inside school sources) have indicated that "the word ws kept" and the assignment was tossed in the principles lap by a MUCH MUCH higher up central office female..

what goes around comes around .... always does! funny thing is .... if the the man who the mommies and daddies (of the six runaways) want to get the coaching job ( to ensure that their all pro.. lol.. children get to play) gets it (which he won't) but ... just to say he does ... won't they be in for a big shock when another set of mommies and daddies start complaining about the "new" coach and the board HAS to let them go ... once you have made a decision like that and followed through with it, you must continue the tradition if you catch my drift. Now, we all know that the almighty board and central office would like to blame gary for everything just so their heads don't fall on the plate, but what they don't realize, is that the county knows exactly what has happened ..... gary was forced to do what gary did and once again ... check under TSBOE legality guidelines ...... blackmail is actually prosicutable. As far as Gary losing his job ..... I'd LOVE to see it ... can't you just see it all over NATIONAL news .... Man who almost died protecting his students and staff in a school shooting is dismissed ... and for WHAT reason ?? Gary would be sitting on easy street for the rest of his years. The board/central office which to me seems to be one in the same HAS to be smarter than that!! Then again, they sure have done a lot of stupid stuff in the past! Let's start a poll ....... who thinks come school board election time that we will be seeing ALL new faces sitting in those pretty hard wood chairs (keep in mind .. the school board CAN dismiss their queen) I'd pretty much bet a year's salary that if homeless Joe Blow ran for a school board position he'd get it with a land slide .. at least that sure is the talk of the town! Come on Peeblee ... start a poll for us .... we need a lttle humor in all of this .. we could even nominate individuals who we think should run for office ..... i can think of a few crazy thing is .... one homeless joe blow could more than likely do a much better job than the entire crew we have now can! love ya peebs ....
