Billy has coached exactly one year of non-junior pro basketball. This doesn't exactly qualify him for the high school job. We need to look outside the county for a new coach.

First, Gatorboy i hope u were kidding with that Billy post. I know coach Wendell pretty well as i have had him at a couple of camps i held and he brought his teams here to play. Your right he would definately run a good program and get the community involved. I Helped coach at CCHS a couple of years and there wasnt much parental, or community involvment. The community will help if asked. I went to several banks and old supporters of cougar bball and ask them to help and they did, i raised almost 4000.00 for the boys program and we used that money for camps , shirts, team meal, etc .....for two years so if we get a young NEW coach that gets the kids and parents excited then the community will follow. PS. u need to go to church with your mom.lol

There are alot of opinions both ways on Hunley. I like Rick and think he is a good coach. He was blessed with tons of talent over the years at the high school and the middle school. He learned basketball from one Robert "Teach" Petrey and he was probably the best and most underrated coach in the county. Anybody who I have talked to that played for Teach swore by him and his system. Pat, I didn't know that Hunley learned from Coach Petrey. I went to Wynn while he was there and you are right he was a master at fundamentals and Wynn ALWAYS had great teams that competed for district titles. Back then 1A was really strong. Most of those schools are gone now. Coach Petrey was great! He and Coach Kitts produced some great talent out of Wynn.

Anyone blaming the adminstration really should clarify which administration. School or county?

pat .... what's wrong with ya boy ... you know me .. and know me well ...... all you ever had to do was call or email and you could have all the REAL facts you want or need .... the rumors going around are hilarious ..... as far as the situation itself one can only say "only in campbell county" and by this i certainly don't mean the dismissal of Pierce, but the manner in which ALL things fall out ... it WOULD NOT surprise me if they couldn't find a replacement for the head coaching job ... i understand that many may not have the experience to see what has now happened, but, those of us individuals who have been around realize that those who might could or would coach wouldn't touch the job with a ten foot pole .... you see, if you actually know the facts and the reasoning on paper as to why Mr. Pierce was asked to step aside (and sorry to disappoint anyone but it isn't due to losses .. had that been the case their would have to be replacements in 90% of the coaching positions in CC) you would know that now .. in this county alone .... any coaching or non-tenured (working towards tenured) position is in danger .. therefore NOBODY who is knowledgable about how things actually work would touch the job .. not just the coaching job, but ANY job within the educational system of Campbell County ... as a matter of fact this situation alone will hurt the quality of new teachers hired in the county ... there are too many other counties where you can be employeed where you know things are done by the book something the higher-ups haven't heard of ...... what is REALLY going to be interesting is to see HOW MANY new coaching positions are filled in the months to come ... pat, you and i both know what just might happen at this point ..... think about it .... i'd bet the farm that i know of one or more who were PRAYING that this DIDN'T happen to L. Pierce..... because if it did ... oooohhhhh .... there may be more than another coaching position gone ..... i can honestly say that i don't think that some of those who were pulling sooo hard to get rid of Len thought about what might, could and can happen to the coaches who they are such big buddies with .... and that would be a decision not made by ever so talented school board, but in a courtroom, or maybe simply just behind the closed door of the state department of education ..... it seems now that the state is quickly becoming quite interested in the present as well as PAST happenings in campbell county ..... and anyone who actually trusts CC's school board or central office staff when they have said .. "oh, this person or that doesn't have anything to worry about"..... needs to think again ... there are some things they have no control over , no matter how much they like to think they do ....

Playthegame, you may have hit the nail on the head with your comments about not being able to find a new coach. I will give you a little history lesson on the way Len Pierce became the coach again at CCHS. When they were looking for a new coach they offered it to all the usuall suspects and they all said NO. They then went to Len and he saidNO. They then went to a couple coaches in Claiborne county and they said NO. then back to Len, NO. they then asked a couple of coaches in Knoxville if they or anyone they knew might want the job and they laughed and said NO. They then went back to Len and asked him what it would take to take the job back cause they couldnt find anyone, and he told them and they agreed and the rest is history. Beleive me, Len wont miss it a bit and it will be a releif to him. He used to be a good coach with alot of passion, but he coached for so long and so hard he got burnt out and really didnt want the job and it showed. To coach and do a good job at the high school level you have to have the dedication and obligation to your kids to get them to college. this would include films, dvds, letters, emails, whatever it takes. So you better be prepared to spend a lot of time away from your family.just some thoughts
