anyone remember "sports chat"... a caller pointed out that chris had received offers from several big name schools...I questioned that publicly on the air...teh next day chris came by and showed me letters from Auburn and a couple of other SEC schools...and that was just what they were...letters---form letters... colleges have lists of players that high school coaches send in of their players who might be considered "outstanding"...these names are punched in/loaded into a computer...someone hits the "print" button and form letters are sent out to these players whose names have been submitted by their own coaches...I did this myself and several players who would have to work REALLY hard to play small collee ball received letters form various big time football schools...heck, some of my players were invivted to visit carson-newman (is that how you spell it??) and I know they could have in no way played for the Eagles... so form letters is what many high schoolers receive...

Once again we are in agreement coach Peeb...people don't understand this and when signing day comes around they are out in the rain and let down because their confidence has been built up, only to have their bubble burst.

I know a former player of mine who received "letters" from Ohio State, Nebraska, Tennessee, Texas, and Auburn just to name a few and ended up signing with UT...that would be Tusculum... another told of a "full ride scholarship" at Tusculum...heck, Tusculum doesnt have enough scholarships to field a full complement of football players...many share or split scholarships with other players, relying on academic and pell grants as their means of funding college... there is no such thing as a full ride scholarship...scholarships are no longer four year "contracts"...scholarships can be revoked at any time by the head coach..

Right on again...every player fills out FAFSA papers etc. They also take into account any academic monies players qualify for then and only then do they make a monetary offer. That is why kids with good grades and test scores are so attractive. When I went I received some pell grant, an academic award and minimul football money because I didn't need it...I only took up about 1/3 of a scholarship which allowed us to sign a couple more kids. This should be stressed to every player that wants to move on...Their grades should be the thing to carry them and make them more marketable to football programs, then their football skills can be worked on. If books come first it is easier to sign said player for any coach.

I don't think Chris in any way was let down. He never intended on playing football in college or attending college for that matter. I know his ACT scores and that was not an option. I didn't say Chris was all hyped up on letters. He didn't even read half of them. College wasn't in his plans ....so who really cares? If Chris didn't! In the beginning of this debate, I was stating that Chris was an excellent player. We live in a county were everyone is told and believe they have limits......just like the movie of Vince Papale ...you can do things if you set your mind to it and don't give up. It doesn't matter how big you are sometimes...it matters how big your heart is!

In AC the supplement is $6,500.00 and here in good ole CC it is $2000.00.....And we wonder why we can't have any good coaches! Most of the time you get what you pay for!
* $6,500.00 is for an assistant coach.

Right on in both posts Vixen, especially the pay comment...shamefull that people like Wells and Shouse have to work for such a pay...they are both good coaches. The Prices would be making a carreer mistake in coming here as far as pay etc. is concerned.
