Not a bash on Chris or anything, but he was a good high school player...a little short of amazing...but very good.

I for once disagree with you redhound.....Maybe "he" wasn't amazing, but some of the stuff he did on the field was. I have never seen a running back do some of the stuff he did......He could have started anywhere in East Tennessee and most of the state that yr!

Chris is one of a kind. You know its hard to imagine him being a whole lot better...I know we can always improve....but... I think it says something that he had never played football before his 8th grade year. Him and my son are very good friends...and he says the only reason he got into football was for the free pizza that JMS had during their midnight madness~...his 8th grade year. Chris is very humble and always willing to learn. The season opener for the Titans....My son and I were on the sidelines....and they sure could have used him!!!...lol
*I will chalk that one up for Chad~
Oh, and one more thing...if Chris wasn't all of that...why did he have offers from dozens of schools to play football? Auburn. Alabama, etc... some big schools.

I find it hard to believe he had "offers" from those schools....Not saying your wrong...but if thats the case...I would be shocked! Getting letters and being offered is 2 totally different things!

Well Ive got a 20 minute highlight film of nothing but highlights of Chris from his Jr & Sr year, it shows that he was awesome. He always gave that xtra effort. Now he actually begn playing in the 6th grade...He played little league as a 6th grader, I coached him his 7th & 8th grade years at JMS. 8th grade was his break-out year as he broke every rushing record at JMS that season. His 7th grade year he got his collar bone broken on the last play of the first half of the first game against Jellico, missed the next 3 or 4 games. When he came back he had fallen behind quite a bit...so he never met his potential that season.

I agree with AE2 as far as the offers. He may have gotten letters, but i doubt scholarship offers. He was amazing though.

As I said before very GOOD high school football player. I played division 1-AA football and he wasn't in the same league as our RB's. So to say Auburn was interested is a joke...from the Cadillac to Chris Johnson...come on...be real. He would hhowever have been a very good player at the NAIA level on the defensive side of the ball and possibly D2, but until you really see that level it is hard to relate. Could you folks really imagine him running the ball against UT, UF, and LSU's defense. I wish he'd gotten the opportunity to play ball at the next level, but the simple reason that he IS NOT means those offers weren't real, and I hate that for any kid that gets his/her hopes up.

I gotta go with Redhound on this one. Chris didn't have the size to go to a D-1 school. I knew the poor kid was getting his hopes up for nothing 3 years ago when I heard Auburn "offered" him a scholarship. I never knew of any scouts from a big school coming to a game to see him.

Exactly. It's sad that people believe otherwise.

Okay you got me, I Lied! And I guess my son was lying......it was for athletics...not a RB....they could have wanted him for special teams or whatever! I seem to think that if a school is sending athletic letters that for some odd reason they know he plays football! Just me I guess. I know Chris didn't write them~

I have no doubt they sent him letters of interest. I just dount they ever got to the offering him a spot level. I just know that alot of times kids jump the gun on that and think it is a scholarship offer.

Exactly Pat...Heck I can pull out 100's of letters from schools, but did I get offered when it came to nut-cuttin time...no. Offers are never made through letters either...they are verbal, and normally face to face...then upon verbal commitment the student athlete is sent official papers on national signing day I wish he had been able to go as I said earlier...I am always for kids having opportunities to move on to the next level. Size is a demon in recruiting;I know first hand. I have seen many very good athletes not move on because of it.

I agree, every high school head coach submits names of their star players & those kids receive letters...but I was only stating that Chris was an awesome high school football player & he was the best all around player that I have ever coached.
