I see too many coaches start their season saying "We're gonna run this offense and this defense and do things this way." I made that mistake my first year. I think a good coach evaluates what strengths and weaknesses his players have and draws up a game plan using what he's got and what he don't. It's tough when you have more weaknesses than strengths, but I've not seen too many great teams that are formed on the position or power of their parents/relatives.

Billy W deserves the chance to coach h/s, and i am sure that any body in fla would love to have him at their school/// crunch<<<<<< I had to post this again...this guy is either Billy himself, a close relative, or a player that loved him that is headed to high school next season. He has no qualification to be a HEAD coach in high school...now maybe after a couple years at the M.S. level he MIGHT be ready to be an assistant at the H.S. level. I have said time and time again on this board that people think success at lower levels can translate to success at the next. And to say a Jr. Pro title qualifies one to coach H.S. is like saying a high school football coach who won a state title or two is ready to make the leap to the NFL...come on guys be real.

You guys keep talking about these middle school coaches that should get a chance to coach the cougars. PLEASE. The middle schools are loaded, anyone could coach those teams and do well. Sometimes you do the best coaching when you dont have talent. High school ball is alot different than msball.

I agree with you that high school ball is a different critter than msball. But, I disagree that the ms teams are loaded. Jellico (who is the farthest from loaded I've ever seen) scrimmaged LaFollette last year. Their first string beat the crap out of us. They were strong, agressive, and well disciplined. After a few series of that, coach Rutherford put in the scrubs. They were not near as strong, not quite as agressive and not nearly as well disciplined. That's why they were not first stringers. In msball, fundamentals are job 1. If your mscoach instills strong fundamentals in his players, that's going to show up on your high school team. Your freshman year is a little too late to learn how to play football. Also, how many kids did LaFollette have on the team when Rutherford took over and how many does he carry now? When we went there they had almost 60! The better your program is, the more kids that'll want to be on the team. He's got 60......we're struggling to re-build and finished last season with 16.

I am pretty sure pressman does not actually write for the Press. I can't see any of those guys actually getting on here and behaving like this.
