To be able to press you must have some quckness and basic fundementals. The "fab 7" had none, this is simply parents living thru thier kids (the lagacy). it happens in every sport every year. the only thing wrong with Pierce is that DADs cant tell him who to play and what type of style to play. i wish people would look at the players and not the coach. i heard a stat the other day from a certain source...when one player shoots 4/17 3's in one game you need some adjustment. BUT HE SCORED 12 POINTS. face it high school bball is not AAU no matter how good they play in florida or whatever they havent achieved bball GODLINESS yet. these boys have simple been told how good people think they are all their lives. now they must face reality...TURN IN THE UNIFORMS AND GROW UP BOYS!

To press you must have three things, a guard that can recognize and adjust to crease the "pancake" coverage off the baseline. This guard is responsible for recognizing the match up and seeing if a third person has slipped to the time line for the long out, and thus pulling out of the press. Not calling off the press places both guards all the way back and sets up a three on three with two wings guarding out on a 2 or 3. The 2/3 has the option of using motion to open the lane or pulling out the opposite side and letting the half court set up. The second skill that must be with the guard setting the press is foot speed and lateral quickness to give a step, step and a half needed to give the illusion of space to the inbounding player. This can be built up and learned by a player, but is very demanding and not all pupils are willing to put the work in. The third skill is the one all the coaches in the stands see and equate as being the hallmark of why we should press more with player X. That skill is quick hands, this is the least of the three, and with a good second man can be over come. Offense is ALWAYS dictated by a teams ability to play defense. A team that has difficulty in transition, is small underneath or lets teams get good looks without forcing at least three passes prior to a shot will need to slow down the pace of play. You can not make like an Arkansas team from the early to mid 90's on offense, with out a defense that forces lots of bad looks from the 15 feet out. Up tempo is predicated on turn overs and the ability of a defense disallowing offenses from crashing the boards.

While short, I do have a little bit of a basketball pedigree.

Sounds like you could give a couple of pointers to some of our coaches here in the county right now. Well said there, bigkev!

I LOOK AT THE ISSUE WITH THE TEAM THIS WAY. I FEEL THAT IS THE STUDENTS (NOT THE PARENTS) WERE UNHAPPY WITH WHAT WAS GOING ON WITH THE TEAM. THEN THEY SHOULD HAVE SET DOWN AND TALKED TO HIM. IF HIS RESPONSE WAS THE SAME THEN FINE. IF THEY STILL THOUGHT THEY HAD NO OTHER CHOICE BUT TO MISS THEN THAT IS FINE, BUT DO NOT RANT BECAUSE YOU MADE A STANCE FOR WHAT YOU THOUGHT WAS RIGHT AND DIDN'T GET WHAT YOU WANTED. IF NOTHING ELSE THIS IS PART OF THE STANCE. DO NOT COMPLAIN THAT YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED BACK ON THE TEAM. I LOOK AT IT AS YOU DID NOT WANT TO PLAY FOR HIM IF HE WAS THE COACH. WELL HE IS STILL THE COACH SO DON'T COMPLAIN. ALSO COMING FROM A PLAYER FOR MANY YEARS. IF I PLAYED ON A TEAM THAT LEFT ME HIGH AND DRY LIKE THAT I WOULD NOT WANT THEM BACK ON MY TEAM EITHER. PS PARENTS JUST STAY OUT OF IT. WHEN YOU GET INVOLVED THIS HAPPENS AND NO ONE WINS. LET YOU CHILDREN BECOME ADULTS

Great post. No matter what is going on with the coaches, let your kids decide what they should or should not do. I think its ok if your parents give you advice, but dont let them be the ones to go to the coach/school board for you, no matter what the issue is.

i think these seven boys have learned a lesson of a lifetime ..... they may have stood up for what they believed in but they sure didn't do it in a wise way ...... i guess they should have thought about the consequences and if they could live with them ... you would have thought that their parents would either be helping them make a wise choice OR letting them make their own choice rather than setting them up for a lot of disappointment ...... and if Dr. Blevins or a school board member/s led those parents in this direction then shame, shame on them ....

This isn't for up for argument...just want to know what you think....When you go to the highest authority with a problem. Okay....and they say...do this~ and this will happen~... no matter the rep of the person in authority, you have to trust this person at the time, all your other options are gone. When you went to get answers you didn't go planning on boycotting..but this person says...DO THIS! And you do what you are told by the highest in charge!...So if you are up for a murder you DIDN"T commit and your lawyer says do this and everything will be okay~ And you get sentenced to life in prison! Should you have not took the advise of your lawyer...the one that is specialized is this area and supposedly knew what he was talking about? Who's fault is that? Is it yours for trying to get off of a bad rap that was pinned on you and you didn't do it? Should you have just said I'm guilty..throw me in prison? And all along you are innocent~
