thejungle,
So you think its too hard for CCHS to compete in 5A? What do you want them to do, shut down the program? It doesn't matter how young they are, the best players should be on the field. Reid couldn't be any worse than what they fielded last night. You ask how many freshman are playing for these other powerhouse schools. There is a reason why they don't have to play freshman, they are loaded with upperclassmen. We don't have that luxury at CCHS.
cougarvixen,
I am not part of Reid's family, but I have seen him play several times and seen him in the weightroom and I think he is ready after seeing the players in front of him. Maybe he wanted to quit because the coaches tried to move him from his natural position. Tell me why he can't at least be returning kicks? That does't require knowing the playbook. If they aren't careful they are going to lose him because there are plenty of other schools that won't waste his talent.

cougaralum, be careful who you address directly. I have experienced that some of these folks think they own the cougar/devil nation and cannot take anyone that disagrees with them. You should see the threatening e-mails that I have from 3 or 4 of them.
It is amazing these folks cannot hold a discussion and simply disagree with you through the discussion. They feel they have to send threatening e-mails because they do not have an argument against the points that I have made. So, their only alternative is to threaten me if they ever meet me.
And we wonder why our kids have such a violate time in school. But I am willing to hold discussion. Come on people, please convince me why I should feel differently about the coaching situation, other than that you will beat me up if we ever meet.
ha ha, I just noticed my Karma is up to -43. That just goes to show you how much some people hate the truth.

Did I say anything to say that Reid shouldn't be playing? I am telling you why he isn't playing. So don't address me as if I am holding Reid back. I am one of Reid's biggest fans! So find another tree to climb. I know what Reid and Keenan done their last year at LMS and I know by their junior and senior year...Thunder and Lightening will strike twice!

CCHS has never had the numbers on the football team to be competitive year in and year out in 5A football. I remember when there were several teams that finished the season with less than 2 dozen players! Now that's sad when you have the amount of students that the school has, right?

At some point the "sleeping giant" as one good coach that CC let slip away will awake. IF an energetic, blue-collar style coach comes in and is allowed to run the program with a guaranteed contract we would see CC stabilize. There is no excuse to be below .500 with good scheme and playcalling. Now I do think Wells sets a good off-field example and handles the up front part of coaching very well, but many are raising questions about his system and playcalls...I have no firsthand information on that, and any knowledgable coaches out there that have seen it can fill me in...otherwise I will reserve coment on that aspect of it. Maybe the offense just needs a facelift, and start doing things the kids will buy into and have fun doing.

Actually it is the losing, which admittedly can be from coaching, that keeps kids from playing. But it is a Catch-22. The players won't play as long as the team is losing but the team will keep losing without the proper players.

None of you know why Reid isn't playing right now. All you can do is speculate and say it's because of politics. First of all maybe a tenth of it is because he's a freshmen. I don't know how many posts I read before this year how wet behind the ears that freshmen are and they don't know squat. Now everyone has changed their tune and is saying who cares if they are freshmen. There are 4 freshmen that play varsity. I'm going to just say it like it is...some of you on the Reid wagon might be family..........nothing personal intended. First I'm going to say that if you go back and read all of my post out of my 618 post I have never said anything bad about Reid. I have been the one here to say..I think he can be better than Chris if he will keep his nose clean! He is my son's best friend. They refer to themselves as thunder and lightening. Reid with his remarkable speed and vision, Keenan with his pound you in your face. Right now Reid is having problems learning the plays. That is the biggest thing keeping him off the field. He has been frustrated to the point that he has contemplated quitting. Rhino talked to him and told him don't quit! Your time is coming. Now I don't care who you are if you don't know what to do on the field you can't be out there. That gives the other team even more advantage than they already have. Reid was gone the day they ran their 40's. I know he is way faster than they even think he is. I agree in the 4th quarter...Reid should have been on the field. But I can tell you that Reid not playing has NOTHING to do with who he is. If anything that is only going to help him. His reputation precedes him. If Reid will learn his plays backward and forward... you will see Reid on the field! I for one can't wait to see Reid progress as he matures and gets bigger. He will only get better! don't mean to stir anything up really, but i think that we are really agreeing here. all i am saying is that we were losing really bad in the 4th and i think they could have at least worked him in (which is what you agreed with as well) or worked the rest of them in for that matter. my reasoning to this is only because of his performance at the UC game last week. cause, like i said, yes i know he is a freshman, has to wait his turn, etc...

Like someone said, we don't really have the numbers like these big schools. Numbers that play anyway....so if a freshmen is good enough or in Reid's case knows the plays...I believe he will play. Keenan is on goal line defence 1st string. And has played defence in both varsity games. He had 2 sacks in the UC game and a tackle for a loss. Not sure of his stats for the Powell game. I believe as Reid learns the plays, he will play.

As I said...the program needs to build on the enthusiasm that has existed in the last couple years and continue to breath fresh air into it to continue fanning the flame. IF excitement can stay up and keep numbers high the program has solid potential.

Orangwashed, Its not the coaching that keeps the kids from playing. See when there in little league, middle school etc... they are probably being coached by there parents or some family member and are told all the time by them how great they are and then when they get in an environment that they are no longer the STUD they cant accept it and all of a sudden instead of working harder they say the coach doesnt like me. Hey I played up there and didnt like some of my coaches at the time but now that im older i appreciate them more now.

Cougaralum, we are loaded with upperclassman too. and no i dont want to shut the program down but we should schedule better with our non district teams and beat them and maybe win a couple district games and we are at .500 and thats how you build a program. As far as Reid goes apparently something has happened that we dont know about, because your right he should have gotten some touches in the 4th quarter. I dont know why , but i bet you Reid knows why.

What playbook do you have to learn on Special Teams? Punt Return Right, Punt Return Left--Sounds complicated to me. I think at the least Reid should be in on Special Team Plays. He should be on Kick-off returns and Punt Returns.

Folks, you can argue this all you want to. But the truth is, if playing someone puts them in a position to outshine his kids. Coach Wells just ain't going to do it.
Like I have said before, put down the kool-aid and come on over. Admit there is a problem and get on board to fix it. Again, like I have said before, the kids deserve better than what they are getting.
