Well the Cougars are 2-1 going into this nonregion contest. What happens next? I see the Cougars extending the streak going into the open date.

I'm going to be at Clinton (watching the game and looking for a friend of mine) . A couple of our players might come too, mommies permitting, so hopefullly the Cougars will put on a clinic. The Cougars are on a roll and they've got some confidence now so I'm calling it Cougars by 10 in regulation. Go Cougars!

This is an old region 2-5A matchup...in those days Clinton was the at the top with Oak Ridge, and CC was a perennial doormat. The times have changed somewhat, and the Cougars will be out for revenge for last year's score. I think the emotion will carry them to a quick lead; IF they can keep up the intensity and play mistake-free then they have a shot to win it in the 4th quarter or OT. IF they do what most teams that are "over-excited" before a game tend to do...fizzle out, then Clinton will bounce back and win by about 14. I think CC has a good chance this week, and momentum goes a long way...CC is coming off a big win and Clinton is looking to bounce back from a whacking at the hands of Maryville, but I think Wells and company put together a good game and win a thriller.

I had them losing this game at the beginning of the year but i would love to be wrong. Man isnt it nice to go to a cougar game and see some points scored? I mean i remember when we scored 7 points one year . ALL YEAR and if i remember correctly the defense scored that. LOL

I am pretty sure, but could be wrong, that was 1981 or 1982. It is dis-heartening to have such a history, but the future could be bright if they can stabilize the program over time rather than being up and down...at least now they are having some ups.

I wish I could go. I don't think my buddies at WYSH are looking forward to this game. Cougars are going to eat those Dragons for lunch. To bad I will be in Houston this weekend.

I wasn't able to go to the game last night. Could someone please elaborate!
I saw the box score in the paper this morning and the numbers look awful. If you take away the long pass play to Troy Arnold, the cougars only had 45 yards of offense!! The final tally was Clinton 313 total yards and 18 first downs to the Cougars 85 yards with only 3 first downs.
I realize that CC doesn't have the best passing game in the region, but my goodness, only 8 passes the entire game?!?!?!

It was ugly sportsnut...but the crazy thing is we was in the game till halfway in the 4th.....we have got to stretch out the defense IMO!

Not that is matters that much...but the score when our first team D was on the field was 13-26. The last TD that Clinton scored was on our second team D. Both games we have lost have been to a predominately passing team. Our D has got to learn to defend the pass!

Our offense has got to do something also. I mean u cant score if u have no offense. Special teams cant win u every game.

We have a number of problems. But one of the biggest is our inability to adjust. We went into the game knowing that this was a passing team and we did pretty good defending the passing game. At least better than we have in the passed.
When Clinton starting running up the middle they walked all over us. The middle linebackers were taken out of the game by Clinton’s offense. I expected a change in our defense after the half but no changes were made.
Why can’t we adjust?
Offensively we did what we always do. We are very predictable. If I remember right our first three possessions after the half were three and out. Two attempts to run up the middle and once around the end.
Our team (that’s team not individual) hasn’t had the speed to go around the end in the three seasons I’ve watched them.
To me it boils down to this…
Three years ago our freshman team went 9-1 (Where’d that coach go?). We have a good feed of new players from Jacksboro and LaFollette Middle School and both have pretty good teams. It seems once Coach Wells takes over things fall apart.
Has anyone noticed how few freshman and sophomores we have coming up? Look at the roster after next year, we’ll be lucky to field a team. The kids coming up from middle school aren’t even going out for football at CCHS. Nobody wants to play for a losing team.
There needs to be a major change at Campbell County High School!

Oh, One other BIG what the heck is he doing???
Last quarter, we need time and scores. We keep trying to run the ball and continue to let the clock run down. Why would any coach leave two time outs on the board and run the ball when time and the score is against you???

There was poor clock management during the second half. It is hard to build a program when AC, Scott County, and Cumberland Gap are all pulling your players. Wells has actually come as close to anybody to stem the flow of athletes to other schools. It isn't just football either golf and basketbal are seeing alot of athletes leave the county for elsewhere. The Cougars were without at least one starting linebacker this week and if I am not terribly mistaken we had a dlineman playing with a broken hand. That couldn't have helped against the run. I don't know how our depth is at those positins but I am sure it is a big drop off.
