Another thing that hurts CC is the fact that this is a blue collar school and not a white collar one. With last years team a majority of the seniors worked and missed most of the summer workouts and this kills team chemistry and leadership. DW's leaving hurt some to b/c of his loud presence on the field. Help is definiely needed to bolster the coaching staff.

I agree lmcoachqb2. Having DW leave hurt us alot! Noone here has called coach Wells a bad coach! Like I said earlier I don't expect the playoffs every yr. I do expect to be able to compete against the Clintons, Heritage, Karns, yr in and yr out......If that takes a new coach, so be it. If it takes new assistants that's fine to!!!!

Well I talked to Coach Wells a little bit and I slowly brought up the Price boys. I told him they had been getting a few job offers and I told him who from and he acted kinda shocked. So I told him I asked the Price boys if they would ever consider coming back to CC to coach somewhat offense and I told him what they said and he told me that he didn't have ne hard feelings toward them and he said that from his understanding it was bc of Bball coach. So i asked him what he thought about them coming back and he said he would love to talk to them about maybe coming on board. Let me know what you think about that. I also have a friend that said he would not come to another CC game if they were hired so I also want to know what would u do, would u come or not come.

If yor friend said they would not come back would that be considered "turning your back on the program" ?? Interesting!!!!!

I know during the brief time Peeblee and myself were coaching at CCHS that the weight room was open mornings and evenings.

The truth of the matter is that CC has had many good coaches in the history, most of them were not given ample time to build the program. Any way the bottom line is talent. The cougars are a 5A school with #s of a 3A football team. They cant compete with the big boys week in and week out. I love the coogs but they have not beaten a 5A school in 2 years & they have went longer than that before. Look at the wins this year, Union Co. a 3A school & Lenoir City a 4A school with a losing record.

Like you all have said, it's all about assistants.
I don't know who the Price boys are. I don't care. If they are people who can coach, then let them come. Who cares if they've "turned their back on the program."
Campbell County is a dead end because of all the politics. The powers that be don't want an outsider to succeed. From another standpoint politically, they're not going to throw a bunch of money at the football team when they can't even buy books for their subjects (personal experience). So, how is Campbell County ever going to succeed? I'll give you the recipe:
The kids that are "working" during the summer decide to make it to summer workouts anyway and adjust their schedules appropriately. Summer workouts start at 6am; they only last until 11am. If your job isn't conducive to that schedule, get a different one. If you have to have that $6.50/hr instead of $5.50/hr, then obviously your priorities are with your job and not with football. That's fine - just don't use it as an excuse.
Next, if people in the community want Campbell County to have a good football team, put their votes where their mouths are. Don't vote in the same bunch of local politicos to the school board when there are plenty of other people who run who actually give a nuts about Campbell County and not about perpetuating the oligarchy that has existed in CC since the coal mining and coke oven days. Maybe try having more than just 5 different families involved in the whole process. It might not hurt to let some younger, more motivated, and more capable people decide the fate of Campbell County. If you improve the education system, you'll improve the football team.
If you're confused how one benefits the other, do some research on the number of players who have been ineligible in the past. Also, do some research on recent players who could've gone to college who didn't because they couldn't make it academically. When there's no point in playing football because you can't make the grades, then that makes CC's numbers smaller. If academics are taken care of, then maybe the football team can make a case for getting more money.
Last of all, fix the financial situation at Campbell County. People like Dewayne Wells are taking a huge paycut to teach/coach there. I personally left purely because I could make a lot more money elsewhere doing the same job. I'm not from CC, so it was easy to leave. I know that Dewayne Wells is in CC b/c he grew up there and wants to build a great program.
Here's how to fix the financial situation: if you look on the state web-site, you can look up property taxes. There are hundreds and hundreds of acres of land in CC that are assessed as being agricultural, even though they are located in areas like right across the highway from Walmart. In years past, these may have been agricultural property, but they are no longer. Make people pay taxes on this land for what it's worth. That's only fair. Think of the million dollar homes near the lake. There's no way that CC is getting the tax revenue from these homes. Bottom line: you're being cheated out of a lot of money in CC that is hidden in decreased property taxes. True, some people make the argument that Joe Bob has had that land in his family for 3 generations and he can't afford to pay commercial taxes on it. So what? Sell it. Make a bundle. The next guy can afford and we're all better off. It kills me that no one ever mentions this.
I'm sorry to go off on a rant like this, but I lived in CC for years and was silenced b/c my job was somewhat political and didn't want to rock the boat. CC is getting ripped off politically and financially by the same people who have always had the power and control. It's like Road House w/o the bar.
Check into it.

Ok, maybe some of you have kind of convinced me that it would not be a bad hire, But if they would not hire 2 already established youung teachers, why would they hire 2 unexperienced math majors? Even though it might be a good hire, with the "budget issues" this county has, they may never pay more than 3 coaches anymore.

Zooker, if you can sit there and say this offense doesn't need help from somebody, thats insane!!!! This post isn't about Wells, its about helping this football team out! David Cutcliff played football for Alabama. Now he is calling plays for UT. You telling me bama fans wouldn't love to have him calling plays and directing their QB? ?? People wanna know why A.C and C.C. never play in anything maybe it's cause people can't forget the past! I'm sure a young QB would love to learn from a MR. Football winner, no matter where he went to school!!!!

I agree with coach pierre, garbage in garbage out. Most of the kids in CC program have nothing to look forward to, another 2-8 or 3-7 season. How can one be dedicated to this? What else is there to do in CC, drinking, drugs, or church. The latter usually gets you made fun of. As far as kids working, this is usually mom or dads decision. My son during his football time I told, concentrate on football and if I can't give you enough gas money to take you where you need to go or I'll find another job. Most of the kids don't have this option. I think that most of the skills players are young, frosh and soph, have they been in the system long enough to know it. Having to move previous years TE, voted teams best receiver by team. to tackle didn't help matters either. Consider this a rebuilding year and move on get what assistants are needed and move forward and not dwell on it. After the playoff year CC had good numbers except for those who worked and missed summer workouts.
