How come the band and the football team at CCHS do not get along? I am a band member on the drum line and I have always wondered.

b/c respect. the football players don't respect the band so why should anyone in band respect them. don't get me wrong, i know that they work they work their butts off week in and week out. my brother would be one of the first ones to tell you how hard it was when he was in high school and work their butts off and still lose. alot of them work extremely hard and want nothing else but to win. but then there are those who sit there laughing at us. for what? i mean, i'm sorry, but why why are you guys laughing at us for, did you forget your record. what's funny is the ones laughing us and calling us gay, most of them won't ever even touch the field. and then, the ones that do play alot and laugh at us, hey, what good are you doing, if you're so great then why don't you all win with your great talent. i want the football team to do good. but we go out there everyday and work our butts off just as hard. it's just as hot out there to someone wearing a 30-50 pound drum as it is to all those out there in all those pads. i hope the football does good, but not as long as the players keep treating us like crap. our little sayings like "one heartbeat" and "linked as one" really don't stand true. it should, but it doesn't. there were several members in band who heard some of the coaches of the coaches making comments like get the d**** band off the field. what kind of heartbeat is that?

It's their loss. The band is a huge part of the atmosphere of high school and college football. CCHS happens to be blessed with a talented band and band director.

I can honestly and truly say that when I coached at CC we treated the band with respect and dignity... each time we came on the home field I always made it a point to stop and salute the band leader (field commander, I think is the correct title)... during two a day practices we would leave around noon after the first practice session and the band would still be practicing on the PAVEMENT in the parking area...my GOD!!! it was like 90-something degrees... respect demands respect... Don Hendricks is a hard worker and his band displays the same tendency... if they disrespect the band then they should be given the same in return!!!

I agree as big as football is at UT I dont think they would get away with disgracing the pride of the southland. I loved running through the band when I was in high school & hearing a band at the games pumps me up. I also agree with cchsdrummer06 you dont have room to run your mouth about anything when you are 2-6. But Im sure it isnt all of the players I know that there are some very respectful kids on that team. But a few bad apples can make the whole bunch look rotten.

As far as the band goes, i dont mind it. As far as the the "linked as one" and "one heartbeat" that is not supposed to have ne thing to do with the band. Its talking about the football team and nothing else. One thing that kills me at the game is ill be watching the game and all of a sudden the band plays right in the middle of a play. Tennessee dont ever do it during the game. They wait til timeouts and stuff to start playing. Why cant our band do that?

Apparently u have never been to a Tennessee Game. I sit near the band section most of the time. They play all the time. The closer the game the more they play. When the vols are on offense they will play in between the plays & stop when the vols come to the ball so they can hear audibles. The one heartbeat...sure it was created by the football team but could be a great motto for the entire school after what they went through last year. If an entire community wanted to adopt that saying & get behind the football team what would be wrong with that? Not to be mean but if the band waited for big plays or scores by the cougars befor they started to play, they wouldnt be playing that often. We need an offensive coordinator bad.

a "one heartbeat" and a "linked as one" banner has been displayed in the school near the office area at times... wht shouldn't these slogans be related to the entire school and the community... if you want people to support you then you cannot put yourselves in a position that outsiders/non team members are not included... in other words, don't alienate the team from all others... I think I have seen parents of players wearing t-shirts with these slogans... should they be told not to wear these t-shirts... afterall, they aren't members of the football team... think about it...

dwayn25, do you have any idea at all what you're talking about. we'll play whenever we feel like we have to play. and if you ever notice, the band never plays when we have the ball. the saying isn't just for the football team, it's for the school. not everything's for the football team. and if they feel like they are "linked as one'' then i'm sure that they don't need any of the student section to come out and support them like they do every week, win or lose. like pressman said, tennessee's band does play constantly. they have one big play you here rocky top. and what does a college band even have to do with when we play. phillip fulmer treated the pride of the southland marching band half as bad our coaches do and told them not to play, and told them to not make the "T" for pregame, then i wonder where he would be right now. the football team use to always run out the band. coach k's last year here was the last time they did it b/c the new coaching staff didn't find it appropriate. not untill this year has the team started doing again. and the first 2 or 3 games, while we were playing the fight song, the football team was playing whatever crap it is that they use to play. but if you really feel that way about the band then i guess the cheerleaders shouldn't cheer either. our fans should sit there in complete silence. that's what you're saying. we are all there supporting the football team. and we will get loud. the cheerleaders want stop cheering, the fans won't stop screaming, and the band won't stop playing. and if you don't like that then that's just too bad. b/c we will continue to play. so go sit with the away team's fans if you don't like it. the football team may be the heart of this school on friday nights, but the fans, cheerleaders, student section, band, and whoever else is there supporting OUR team, gives that heart its heartbeat!

I always loved the band in high school and college, as Bearden coach said it pumps me up. Ghe coaching staff at CC excluding a couple have always seemed a little arrogant and aloof, but that is just an observance. CC truly lost a class act when Kesselring left. As for the one heartbeat thing...it should be for anyone associated with the football team (fans, boosters, cheerleaders band, grounds keepers, concession workers student section, et. all)...It should be a pride building slogan of unity; instead it seems to have become a members only slogan that serves to alienate others. I think some of the animosity toward the band is like racism in the segregated south...if you can't feel good about yourself cast someone down and make their lot worse than yours.
One question about the band...why are the numbers so down this year...I remember the days of 100 person bands. Granted I haven't been around for a while, but last friday when I saw how few members we had I was shocked.

The band always adds electricity to the game while on the field. I hated traveling when the band didn't go...there is some mental advantage for the team with a band when they are blaring iron man etc. when your QB is trying to check off at the line...I hated that crap, but I loved it at home when the shoe was on the other foot...hahaha. Keep up the good work guys attitudes have to change somewhere down the road.

thanks champ, and you're right, the numbers have been down the past couple of years. that's what strange, a school our size should have 100 piece band, and really there should be more who want to go out for the football team. the kids just don't want to do it anymore. the only think that sucks about it is at the end of the year and you look at all the seniors who this their last performance, game, etc. and just knowing that they're not going to be on the field with you next year. but in the end, it's all worth it. but we'll be there every friday night playing no matter who wants us there or not. so thanks for the support!

Oh yeah if u play football at CC y r ur stands always half empty? Maybe because u never give anybody there something to get excited about. Now take those half empty bleachers & take out the band & their parents. How empty are they now? Oh go ahead & take away the cheerleaders their parents, & let us not count the visiting team. How many people are there now? Think about it! If you truly want support then treat people how u want to be treated.
