Tuesday night the Cougars played in the chop house classic. The Cougars first round opponent was an athletic Austin East team. Austin East found out early the way to beat the Cougars was to apply pressure and crash the boards. Even though the Cougars only lost by 13, here were a few things that they need to improve on before district play.
1. Rebounding- The Cougars have been out rebounded in both of their games so far this season and last night they were out rebounded 48-21. Most of the rebounds for AE came off the rim from their 2-18 3pt shooting.
2.Pressure- The Cougars struggled against full court pressure, just small things like not passing it up and trying to dribble caused numerous turnovers.
These were things that if CC could have done better I personally think it would have been a much closer ball game, maybe even a different outcome.
I thought Coach Pierce did a good job playing a zone and making them shoot, that was a good coaching decision. Only bad part noone boxed out in the zone.
Interesting note- Only 9 players are on the varsity squad at CC.
