Luke has all the potential in the world to be an excellent 2 sport athlete. With work ethic he could be unreal at the middle school level.

Kids don't just get that ethic over night, and they resent someone trying to instill it. It is a difficult situation trying to acomplish such a goal as a coach or parent. I don't know who it would be easier for because as I said at this age they tend to resent that type of thing.

I think that part of the problem with this team will be that a couple of them are more for them self than the team. I have watched some of these boys from the start of their basketball careers and have seen firsthand what they are capable of. It's a shame to see that potential go to waste now. I think that this LMS team could be a very good one if things are run correctly.

Definitely bigblue if the me me stuff is pushed to the side they could be unreal. I have seen the big kid from LMS motivated and all he needs is to be is challenged by someone, He steps up when he is challenged. What do you think Lmsqbcoach??

who is the coach at LMS??? it akes a special person to coachand motivate a kid at this level who doesnt already have the desire... if basketball is his sport thenmotivation and desire should be self instilled...if a young athlete doesnt have this then there isnt much the AVERAGE coach can do... I am quite prejudiced but I aint no dummy...Coach Johnny Bruce could get more out of a young football player than anyone I have ever been around...now he IS quite a motivator!!!

Yes Zooker I agree but there has been some developments that tear down instead of build up especially in the framework of the team concept. These are recent developments that will be a true test for the team. Many are not happy in Owl land.

Luke was down at the Rec today and wasted no time in bragging about his stats. Note to anyone who might play him, get a hand in his face and he is very ineffective outside if you pressure him in anyway, if he gets inside, hes unstoppable.

Luke was down at the Rec today and wasted no time in bragging about his stats. That doesn't sound good BP! He better get rid of that and worry about making the team better. He has been making some of his team mates unhappy to say the least. Too much about him and what everyone else is doing wrong. That's really hard to watch!

I can believe it, he kept saying he was the best shooter on the court, and the kid couldnt make a shot beyond 5 feet from the rim. Someone needs to get a hold of him and put him in his place.

Sad to see someone with an ego that big in middle school, isn't it?
Don't think there's much of a chance of him being put in his place though.

If I am not mistaken he did get kicked off the football team for the same reasons...he has a poor attitude and it affects those around him.

I believe you are correct there redhound. Nothing will kill a team any quicker than for someone to be all about me and not the team!

I just have to say:
Luke and my son have had their ins and outs! Luke has stayed at my house and he is very confident of himself!. He thinks he's good at anything he does. But he is a very good kid! He has a big heart to go with his big body. I am a mom and I see these things before I see the sports side. And I can't understand why everyone is all over Luke. On the court I see that he should be more involved not less! I see that there is 2 players that take it from coast to coast and don't look back or side to side! Luke DOES talk a big talk but he is NOT the me person on the court like the 2 that think they are the team! He got kicked off the football team because of another kids mom!!!!! I was there!!!! If she had not had ran her mouth Luke would have missed one game for missing a practice and would have been back! I just want everyone to know that if you get to know Luke as a person he's a good kid! That is one of the reasons in football that he could have excelled more....if had not been so soft hearted!!!

For the record, Luke didn't have a "me" complex during football. He was kicked off the team for missing practice and some things that were supposedly said after a game in which he did not participate. It was brought up at practice and the players voted unanimously not to let him back on the team. While he did play he excelled when challenged for position. He spent at least 30 minutes after every practice punting. He is a good enough kid he just got messed up in a bad situation. He has already said that he plans on playing football at CC next year. At his age, as with all kids, they think that they know it all and don't care to let you know it. Being confident and sharing that with others is considered bragging but kids don't see it that way. Besides, who has stopped him in the paint? At the half of their last game he shot 3 from behind the arc and made 2. I sound like I am singing his praises but there are things that level the playing field in this instance.
