Just curious if anyone has an opinion about the thursday scrimmage.

Bystander, I think we need more work on passing, it seems to be better than last year. It would not hurt to have some boys that can run as fast as Bearden boys. The boy that made that touchdown was going so fast I could not keep up with him.

Given this was just their 1st scrimmage and some are starting for the 1st time and all still need MUCH work....the passing seems to be on the right track. I was glad to see us throwing the ball....and connecting more than we dropped. We had aboout 5-6 or more starters setting in the bleachers with injuries. People judge scrimmages as if they are the final product and there is just so many factors that makes scrimmages not a measuring stick. If we're going to make mistakes that's exactly when we want to do it so we know what we need to work on. I'm looking forward to this coming year.

I couldn't tell who was who by the numbers, but a few numbers stood out, on offense, numbers 1,2, 30, 16, and on defense 56, 27, 30, 21 , and 14 all looked promising. I think a little more work on hitting would serve the team well, and I noticed that the Bulldog backs were getting through the defensive line untouched too often, with alot of steam built up by the time the linebackers got a crack at them. It seemed like Bearden was a little more fired up. It's just a theory, but by seeing the number of players for Bearden, they might be playing a little harder to earn a position.

As for the passing game,I agree that it looked a little sharper already, than it did midway through last year. Our receivers looked a little undersized, but made up for it with athleticism, and relatively good hands. The O and D lines looked more immpressive than last year (size), but they need to continue working on the fundamentals, and stay with blocks a little longer, and on D, use their impressive strength coupled with stunts to get into the backfield and blow up some plays. I think they have the talent........just need a some creative play calling.

A little better than the last couple of years throwing but we are in for a disappointing year judging by that overall performance.

Actually I think we're going to have a pretty good year! They have practiced about a week, maybe. They're many hurt and didn't play. The starters that did play only played very little. The 2nd and 3rd played the majority. ;D

I hope you are right Cougs54. Any more scrimmages this spring?
Our scrimmage at Cumberland Gap went pretty good, the offense developed pretty well for only having 9 days of practice. We broke a 99 yard TD run & scored again on a goal line series. We have got to get our O line developed & then we can have some success.
