When will spring practice begin for the local high & middle schools? Any scrimmages? I know this board is dead & Im probably talking to myself, but is anyone out there HEEEELLLLLLLLOOOOOOOO
From what I heard a few CCHS players saying down at McDonalds the other day workout #s are down & the coaches aren't pushing them as hard as years past. Have they given up?
Is Jellico going to field a decent team? How are those workouts?

Who knows... I wish there was an article in the press every now and then to keep us updated on how offseason is going for both football programs.

I can only speak for my own and he's in the weight room doing it! He's raring to go and can't wait! I've been told they have a scrimmage set up with Bearden this spring. Not sure of dates or any others at this time.

Well I guess that your son wasn't one of the ones at Mcdonalds then. All I know is that last season was a disaster & I just wonder if Wells cares more about gettin over to watch his kids play on Saturday then he does about the Friday night game. If the players are out in the public saying that coach isn't pushing them & that work outs are getting too easy....it just makes me wonder.

Probably the ones out in public talking about it are the ones that should be in the weight room doing it! They're only a few dedicated every season and then those that just like to wear the jersey on Friday and ride the bus! The coaches can't give them commitment and dedication.
Those are the 2 things that are achieved when no one else is watching...or apparently listening.

I disagree 54. It’s a coach’s job to inspire and motivate his team. I refuse to believe that the top teams in the area are “blessed” with a larger number of these naturally dedicated and devoted players you speak of. Is there something in the water here or the breeding of these young men that erases dedication and devotion? I don’t think so.
Dedication to a team is built by those who manage it.

Have they given up? Is Jellico going to field a decent team? How are those workouts? I didn't say the coaches has no responsibility in motivation. Dedication is from one's self! No one can give you dedication. For an example my older son played with a certain player. He wasn't dedicated to the game of football. He loved the game and played it VERY well but he wasn't dedicated. He missed practices had other priorities that got in the way. That caused the road he then had to take. The coaches couldn't make him dedicated that comes from within. So you can argue semantics all you want. But I know and see the ones that are dedicated and want to succeed at the game and take it to a higher level. Motivation is a totally different thing. But the ones that have to be motivated aren't dedicated to start with.

Well…I surely wouldn’t post a message on a sports site to discuss the meanings of specific words in the English language.
Dedication comes from the heart. Some can be naturally dedicated. You can also become dedicated to something if you are properly motivated or inspired by either something that happens in your life or by someone in your life. A true leader.. a truly good coach can build dedication.
I’ll go back to what I said before. There is nothing in the water or that being a resident of Campbell County that takes these attributes from our boys. They are just like any other boys in this country. With proper leadership they could be good and some would be great.
I would love to be able to throw a switch and see what would happen to Campbell County sports if the school supported our boys more and if we had a truly great coaching staff.

I think the problem with most our boys is that they strive to be the best on the team or the best at their position & once they reach that then they dont try to get any better. Being the best on the team doesn't make you the type of special player that we need at CCHS to compete with the competition we see each week.
& yes it is the job of a coach to push the players as far as they can 7 to give them motivation. But at some point the player has to decide to push himself farther.
I would assume that Wells has pushed harder or motivated better in the past by the comments that were being said by players themselves.

well people lets face it campbell county football has never been top notch program last year would have been considered a decent year before we made the playoffs the last couple of years. Why is our program like this i think its a few things. One we have many athletes up here but only a certain few will play football for cc but untill we get more good atletes up there we will not be succesfull like we want to be. I dont think it the coaching staff considering this staff took us to three playoff appearances THE ONLY PLAYOFF APPEARANCES IN SCHOOL HISTORY. Although i dont think wells handled last years team the right way he has still done better than anyone else who has ever coached up here. Last year we he should have had tuffy at qb and threw it around cause we all knew the vear wouldn work because we didnt have the athletes like we did the year before. with that team last year we needed tuffy in the shotgun but i just wonder if its to late cause he didnt get the experience he needed last year but i hope they prove me wrong.

Do the Cougars kick off spring next week?
We started yesterday over here at Wartburg & I must say we looked great for a 1st day of spring. I am running the offense now & have been meeting with my QBs 3 days per week before school since November. We are installing a very detailed passing game & the kids are loving it. Im pleased so far but we have a long way to go.
Cougs54 keep me posted on how the boys over there look this spring especially during the scrimmages.

The Cougs scrimmage Bearden next Thursday. I think the Seymour is off now. They are having an Orange and White game. I will have to get the date. They practiced Friday, I think that was their 1st day.
I hope you have a good year bulldogcoach!

Keep us posted on the Bearden scrimmage tonight, I talked to one of my former coaching colleagues at Bearden & he is real disappointed with their O lines effort this spring.
We have 2 days of spring left here at wartburg, going to Cumberland Gap Friday night for a practice session that will conclude with a 45 minute scrimmage. So if you guys are dying for some football at this time of year come check it out.
Any word on Jellicos spring?
