Come Monday, there will be very few places in Campbell County where a smoker will be allowed to light up indoors.
Businesses are going to have to carry the brunt of the responsibility for enforcing the law from the way I understand it. If people are caught breaking the law, the will be fines that increase for each time you are ticketed.
How do you feel about it Campbell County?

I'm all for it. I use to be a smoker before I had the twins. I managed the tobacco store in Jacksboro and Clinton. But I always respected others rights to be smoke free. Especially while eating! Not that you get that in return to often.

Being a non-smoker myself. I certainly am in favor of this ban. We all know that for the most part, smokers have never cared that they are forcing those of us that do not smoke to breath their residue.
They also do not care where they throw their cigarette butts either. For the most part, smokers just seem to not care about anyone else's rights, and thus we now have this ban.
You know, I think if smokers had of been more considerate of other folks, these new laws may not have been enacted.
Oh, I thought of another one, how about whenever you are driving down the road and a cigarette comes flying out of the vehicle ahead of you and smashes right into your car? Of course, the non-considerate smoker can still do this. But it is just another example of how some smokers just have never cared about others rights. My thought is, if they are going to nasty up their vehicle with the cigarette smoke, why not put the butt in their own ashtray instead of littering and taking a chance of hitting someone else's vehicle with their throw-aways?

I never smoked in public places when I did smoke. I smoked at work but it was a tobacco store. Now that I don't smoke and have been quit for over 3 yrs now. I can't stand to smell it at all!

I'm not a smoker, but I think this is just another example of the government over-stepping its authority.
I guess the people in support of this are also in favor of the illegal actions of the State of Tennessee regulating people buying cigarettes in Kentucky. TN Dept. of Revenue officials will be patrolling and if they see anyone buying more than 2 cartons of cigs in Kentucky and coming back to TN, then they are going to consider that contraband and seize the Cars of people! THIS IS CRAZY!!!!!

I agree 100%. I smoke and I'll adhere to the new law and it won't bother me at all, but going to jail for buying cheap cigarettes is crazy. From my shop I can walk to KY and buy cigarettes. I'm closer to KY than the store in TN. What would they do in a situation like that? I don't by in bulk so it won't affect me but some people do and it only makes sense to buy the cheaper cigs dontcha think?

You just about have that one right on there mbcdad. What was really crazy, was to go to a nice resturant and have to walk through the smoking section to get to the non-smoking section. For those people with allergies to the smoke, this is many years past due.

As I have stated, I am all for the smoking ban.
But this business about cigarette police arresting folks and seizing their vehicles is crazy.
Unfortunately Pat, or country has gotten to the point that the Government just about has to legislate some issues, because inconsiderate people that think the world revolves around them will not do it themselves. I think there will be a point that legislation will go overboard, but who is it that will be the determining factor of that? Well, I will in the case of seizing cars and arresting folks for cigarette purchases, that is way overboard.
By the way, the complete article as it appeared in the Knoxville News-Sentinel is posted on the campbellcountyissues.com forum.

Working at a tobacco store I know how frustrating it is to card on a regular basis. There were many undercover agents that would come in and see if we were carding. If I didn't see your id..NO tobacco! Kids stand outside and proposition adults to by their tobacco. Do out of staters stand outside and proposition in statesman?...lol When they should be focusing on if they are selling to minors. So it is going to be double the headache to make sure you're in your own state! I think that is going to far. I say we have enough meth and other crimes to worry about. Not waisting man power to see what state you're smoking in!
The whole purpose of this...they push a little harder each year with some new restriction. Their ultimate goal is to ban smoking period!

well i think that if they are going to ban smoking they should also ban drinking because look how many people cause accidents or even deaths due to dui. so if you do the math one is as bad as the other. another thing if they can't stop drug use what in the world makes them think they can stop smoking. of all things that goes on in this country they are worried about smoking. unbelievable.

The wife and I just got back from Scotty's. It was so nice to go into a No Smoking place and eat.
Ordinarily we would not have went to Scotty's because it would have been so reeked with smoke.
But now it is good to know that we can actually go in there and eat. That is unless of course the County Mayor is there, then that is another story.

It is a usurpation of power by government, but it could also fall under the realm of general welfare...I personally like it, but if an establishment has a completely seperate room etc. for smokers there should be little problem...as long as it is staffed by smokers.
The real root of the problem is the wait-staff being exposed 8-12 hours daily to the toxins of smoking...they do not chose to smoke, but by the necessity of working they are subject to it. Also if charley's is smoking and pizza hut is not...smokers will likely go to pizza hut...thus leaving this choice up to business owners would not be practical.

My friends our government is LOSING the War on Drugs, the war on illegal drugs, that is. What do you do when you find yourself in a losing battle? Look for another, perhaps. "Lets go for a legalized substanced that'll be easier"
I am a smoker. My cigarette saved one obnoxious person that refused to allow me to enjoy my dinner one evening. This person saw our food being delivered, after he'd finished, joined our table and would not leave. The longer he stayed, the louder and more obnoxious he got so instead of getting rude, I smoked and kept my composure. Several hints were dropped, none were taken. He did't let on if he had this great problem with second hand smoke that evening.
