Sure she has won 7 National Championships. But she is scared of Geno and Connecticut. Why did she cancel that game after Connecticut had already signed the contract wanting to continue the series?
First Pat quit playing them two games a year and now she does not want to play them at all. If I understand it right, she has never beat Geno during the course of the NCAA tournament, including, I think, 3 loses in the championship game itself. You can bet the NCAA will make sure they get together during the course of the tournament now that Pat has chickened out of the series.
How is UT women's program going to recoup the money lost from this game? It is the biggest financial windfall game of the year, and now that is lost. I mean, we have already discussed that the women's program is a losing factor financially anyway. Now it will only be worse. She needs to give back some of that over-paid salary to make up for the loss of this game since she does not have the courage to play it.
And the black eye that this decision gives to the women's game nationally. The women's game has been gaining on national recognition in the last few years, but this is a set back. Her decision not only hurt UT, but it hurt the women's game all the way.
Finally, this will kill UT in recruiting. All the other universities are going to say, look at UT, they have lost the courage to play the top teams. Recruits will go where they can play in games that will be on national TV, and that will NOT be UT. Her cowardice will hurt in a lot of ways for years to come.

Thank you both. I can hardly believe that anyone would agree with something that I feel this strongly about.

UConn has fallen off over the past couple of seasons. Granted it was a good draw for the crowd. If UConn is replaced with Tenn-Wesleyan then all of the above is true but if they replace the schedule spot with a team who has been consistently ranked higher than UConn over the past couple of years then boohoo for them. When you win 8 National Titles then you could tell Pat how to run her team, until then keep dreaming.

Its not fair for women college basketball fans...I have heard that Pat canceled the series because of some "dirty" recruiting by Geno......We alllllll know Pat has won 7 championships...which is unreal....but she is also 8-13 vs Geno...so whatever the reasons are.....the nation as a whole is gonna feel Tennessee and Pat "backed down" from Geno!

It did shock me to see the series dropped. That is the equivilant of Notre Dame dropping USC in football. I disagree with the move but hey I am not in charge of the program.
Vixen I couldn't come up with stuff like this to have folks write for me if I tried. But hey nothing like a lil controversy during the slow summer months. I can't wait for some football.

UConn has fallen off over the past couple of seasons. I do not think they have dropped too far. I believe they were ranked in the top 5 for most of the season. I also think that because UConn has recruited the number 1 player the last 2 years in a row, they will probably be back on top very soon. And Geno has proven, when he is on top, he is hard to knock off the mountain. Just a few facts about Geno, he won 500 games way faster than she did, He won 5 championships way faster than she did, He has 2 undefeated seasons resulting in championships to her 1. He also started coaching way later in life than she did. And when he started, the game was already experiencing a bit of parity, as opposed to when she started coaching, there was only one or two good teams all over the country each year. He probably will never pass her in total games won, but he WILL pass her in championships won. And that is why she does not want to play him anymore, she knows that he is the BETTER coach. Sorry to burst your bubble Rhino, but these are the TRUE facts. Granted it was a good draw for the crowd. If UConn is replaced with Tenn-Wesleyan then all of the above is true The above is true no matter who replaces UConn on the schedule.but if they replace the schedule spot with a team who has been consistently ranked higher than UConn over the past couple of years You call the past couple of years consistency. Oh, and by the way, the teams that have been ranked above UConn the past couple of years are already on the schedule, so this premise cannot work.then boohoo for them. When you win 8 National Titles then you could tell Pat how to run her team, until then keep dreaming. This is an asinine theory. By this thought, I guess most of us are not qualified to really talk about anything in the sports field. By the way Rhino, where did you win all those championships in all the different sports that you have talked about on this forum, Nintendo's and Play Station's do not count. Get a grip Rhino, we are all arm-chair coaches that know what is right and wrong. And you know as well as the rest of us, this is just WRONG. I do not remember anyone trying to tell her how to coach the team, but we all know that this game SHOULD be played.

On a more serious note....Are you from Connecticut?
If you feel so strongly about UConn and against UT... I'm sure Geno would love to have you!
I just have to say...UT in all sports is our home state... They don't always win but I'm always a fan! I look at it this way...if you don't like orange and white...MOVE! This goes along with that saying...with fans like you who needs rivals???

No, actually I think the only 2 or 3 are on this board I think the Vols fans are happy we won another and are looking ahead to next year. I guess we can always find something about every team that did this or didn't do that. Just like the age limit thing at LaFollette..... Pat was within her rights and regulations...so who cares?
