Heritage took a beating at the hands of Oak Ridge last week while the Cougars had an open date. Discuss.

[glow=red,2,300][glow=red,2,300]I think that WE, speaking as a fan of the Cougars have a good chance to take advantage of a beaten team. We've had two complete weeks to focus on Heritage and after watching Oak Ridge and them play im sure the coaching has taken focus on the weaknesses shown by Heritage. Campbell County has to take advantage of this chance.[/glow][/glow]

If CCHS even wants to dream of finishing at 5-5 this year, (which would be the 2nd best record ever) this is a must win!

I have big hopes for this game but can you believe our boys haven’t even seen the opposing team’s tapes? You would think with two weeks off you’d spend a fair amount of time learning what your opposing team does. You know, how they block, what plays are their favorite, what they do best. Maybe have the O’line study the man across from him and learn their habits. See how far the QB can throw.
But not here at good old CCHS! Here it is three days before a major game and the team hasn’t watched the first film.
Let’s hope our boys can carry the coach to another victory!!!
GO COUGARS!!!!

This game really is a must win for the players but it is pretty meaningless in terms of region play. The real "must win" games on the schedule are Sevier County and Karns. An upset of Science Hill should be high on the list of priorities as well. D-B and Bearden are games they should go into hoping to pull the upset but not really expecting it.

Heritage's starting tailback suffered a concussion last week against OR. He is supposedly OK now, but who knows.
Their quarterback has thrown alot of interceptions, but it has been against some pretty good talent also.
Heritage is almost desperate for a win. The Cougars better be ready and not pay attention to their record!

If it is true that the players have not watched any film on Heritage, then this coaching staff is even worse than I thought. They have had 2 weeks to prepare and there is no excuse for not watching film. I still believe this is a good opportunity to get a victory. If we can shut down the passing game, we should win.

All the boys have a scouting report in writing. That they are suppose to study. Heritage got slaughtered by OR and by Maryville before that I don't see that there is much to see in comparison to those two teams. Other than don't play like they (Heritage) did. They were on the defense most of the time I'm sure there was nothing much to learn of their offense.

These replies tell me a lot…..
To be successful in any battle among many things you must know you opponent. I know for a fact that a number of very successful high school teams put a lot of weight in studying and learning the teams they are going up against. So much so the team members are given tapes to take home.
An informed team is a winning team. And there is a difference between watching and studying the man across from you. Or reading it on a piece of paper.
Superstar, I agree fundamentals are of an utmost importance. However, when your team is not practicing fundamentals like blocking and tackling you need every bit of help you can get. And knowing your opponent would be a big help.
Now I know one of the first responses to this is that they are being taught fundamentals. Well, I refuse to believe that the boys on the Campbell County Team are incapable of following the instructions and lessons being taught by the coach. Or, that these young men don’t have the will, strength, or the metal to be a winning team.
Our problem is NOT the boys.
And don't think for a minute that Heritage is going to be easy. I think all the teams they played were tough teams.

I think all the teams they played were tough teams. I just want to add that my older son that played he did bring home the opponents tapes. It was a norm. I don't know why they haven't had any thus far. But they do watch tapes at the field house. From my understanding they only had two tapes of Heritage and it was the Maryville... OR tapes. Nothing they could have taken from those films. Whatever Heritage considers a normal game plan....they didn't have the chance to implement any of that in those two games. They were always on the defense as meaning not playing their game but running from OR and Maryville. ( which they did watch like you said ) One more thing about fundamentals.....I talk to my older son (played during the winning season) and he says that fundamentals were always being taught. And it was something that they hounded on. He also said that when they aren't being used is because of laziness. He said they ran plenty of gassers for not following through with fundamentals. We have many here on the board that played under Coach Wells...why don't they let us know...Did they teach you fundamentals? And very much true bout Heritage not going to be easy. They have been pounded these last couple of weeks and they are going to be out for blood! Go Cougars!

You obviously believe that the boys are the problem and not those who are doing the coaching. I believe that the majority of the boys on the team are not lazy, want to be good players, and work hard at what they are doing.
I have watched a lot of practices, and games over the past three seasons. There is nothing you can say to convince me that these boys can’t or don’t want to be winners. They need to be taught how.
