Congratulations to the LaFollette Junior League All-Stars for finishing runner-up to Maryville in the District 6 Championship Game.
LaFollette advanced to the Championship game with a hard fought 4-2 victory over a very tough Eagleton team. Little League's strict pitching rules and a very tough game caught up with LaFollette in the final game.
But there is nothing for the boys to hang their heads about, they went much farther than most people thought they ever would.
Does anyone out there know if a LaFollette Little League team has ever made it to the Championship game before??

Im not sure about Lafollette, but I know there were several caryville teams years back that advanced to southeast regionals. Who knows bigblue, you may have made Lafollette history.

Does it go any further or is that it?
Maybe these next thoughts should be in their own thread, but these kids winning and competing as they have makes me think:
Wouldn't it be nice if they can carry that winning feeling on up to the high school and field a winning team at CCHS for a change.
It is amazing how a team like this can go so far, and as a previous poster stated, Caryville went deep into the tournament several times, but when they get to the high school, it goes away for some reason.
I remember when the little league football team won the league championship 3 years in a row and finished runner-up the 4th year. This past years Lafollette middle team went deep into the playoffs and the previous years Jacksboro middle team went deep into the playoffs, so, will that carry over to the high school?
I also remember several of the Junior Pro basketball teams, from Lafollette and Jacksboro, doing quiet well in the National tournaments and won a National championship in the past few years. Of course, Blue, you know what I am talking about, because we have sat together at many of these events and watched them happen as our kids played in them over the years.
I also know that these teams have done very well for many years, even beyond when Blue and my kids started, but when the kids get to the high school, something else happens. Can anyone out there tell us what it is that happens that CCHS cannot get a winning tradition going in any of their sports.

I would like to respond to the comments made about why our children are not successful at CCHS. This is not meant to degrade any of our boys, we have some very talented players who need to be developed and challenge before they get to HS.
While Little League is a great program, it is a rec program. These boys need to play at a higher level at a younger age. Most of the players they will face in high school have played select travel ball for years. This puts our boys way behind when it comes to pitching and hitting.
I have watched this tournament for the past two weeks and have enjoyed watching the success of our local kids. We have some fine young men who can help tremendously when they get to HS. However, they are all way behind the game because of the lack of real competition. I would ask all of you to go watch a select travel team tournament one weekend to evaluate where our kids really are.

I agree there is some real talent on this team. However, the consistent lack of tough competition throughout the years has put them at a real disadvantage going forward into HS ball. Keep them together - find a couple of real tournaments for them to play in before summer is over.

I would ask all of you to go watch a select travel team tournament one weekend to evaluate where our kids really are. The only problem with this theory is that the players on these travel teams do not ALL play together when they get to high school. So they do not go through high school ball as an all-star team.

A special thank you goes out to Sonny, Justin, Rick, Becky and everyone else at the high school for their hard work during the tournament. There is no doubt that we had the best facilities in all of District 6 and everyone that came to the tournament was just blown away!
Once again, thank you to everyone at the High School for your help on a successful tournament.
