LMS track went to Knoxville West tonight. There were 18 teams that participated. Ms. Evans only took a select few. There were 6 from the boys team. And with only 6, they came home with 2nd! They ran no relays. They placed first in all field events. Keenan placed 1st in shot and disc. He broke his disc record with 141.7 ft. Reid placed 1st in all the races he ran as well as long jump. Garrett placed 1st in high jump and hurdles. Garrett, Reid, and Keenan had 80 pts between the 3. The 6 that went had 95 pts the winning team having 120. For the girls I only know that Bethany M. placed 2nd in shot.
JMS also went...(they took the same bus). I do know that Savanah W. placed 1st in the shot. I have no other stats.

I agree with you that LMS is the best this year. Tonight, both teams went to a meet in Lenoir City, my son Taylor was fortunate to come out on top for the first time this year against Garrett in the high jump.
It has been a fun year following the teams around, the camaraderie that the kids show for one another and also the parents yelling for each others kids has been awesome. And in this, I am talking about both teams, LaFollette and Jacksboro, it is almost if they are one team when they are at the tracks.

Having been involved with LMS track for about 6 years I can honestly say that this year has been one in which the two teams have really came together in the sense of sportsmanship and track brotherhood. This can only lead to good things for the high school.

I was thinking the same thing Rhino. I should have hit upon that point. I talked to someone last night and tried to get them to see what a relay team of Keenan, Taylor, Garrett and Reid could do. But for obvious reasons that just did not work out.
You know, in Campbell County, parents get a real knock for not supporting their kids at sporting events, but, I think what we are talking about here Rhino, works out because the parents are a good group that wants to see ALL the kids succeed.
I know at one meet, Keenan came over and told me that he was having a problem with a parent giving him a hard time at the shot put, I think. I asked him what you did about it. He told me that you were not there yet, but the event was over. I told him, next that happens, come get me and I will step in and help him in that situation if I can. I am not going to let parents from another school harass one of our kids whenever they are performing there event or any other time.
Taylor is considering going to AC, I told the wife, I sure will miss being with all these folks at events like these if he does do that. Because of the support given from parents of both teams to the other teams kids, and our kids seeing that, this has been probably the most special sporting event that Taylor has participated in during his 3 years in middle school. I think our kids have picked up on it, shoot, we probably have actually picked up on it from them, and had a great time this track season.

I think this is a good example of LMS and JMS working as one! Rebekah which is a sophomore now...... but was very true to her colors at LMS~...showed Savanah from JMS at the last CC meet, how to throw the shot correctly. I had talked to Savanah at the Oak Ridge meet and she wasn't happy at all with her stats. I'm not sure what she had been placing if at all. But the very next meet at Knoxville West that LMS and JMS attended together...she placed first with 28 ft. She broke the JMS record which was held by Rachel Lawson. And I guess the reason this stands out to me is...we have a daughter (6th grader) that throws shot for LMS and had been placing ahead of Savanah at most meets. My daughter of course has been shown the correct way and does excellent for a 6th grader....but Savanah is a 8th grader and I'm very happy for her. Now with the technique and learning from there and getting stronger I think she will do very well in HS. Good job Savanah!

Monday was the middle school Area meet at CCHS. The LMS boys placed 2nd overall. Keenan placed first in the shot and disc. He also was 4th in the 200. Reid placed 1st in the long jump, 100, 200, and the 400. Keenan was field events MVP and Reid was MVP overall. The sectionals was suppose to be Thursday but due to rain it has been rescheduled for Friday at CCHS.

I understand the whole sportsmanship thing as far as high school and stuff, but there is no rivalry anymore. I remember when dead flowers were sent to each school and everything before thay played in basketball and football. Where has that went. Thats what I want to see come back to middle school sports.

I understand the whole sportsmanship thing as far as high school and stuff, but there is no rivalry anymore. I remember when dead flowers were sent to each school and everything before thay played in basketball and football. Where has that went. Thats what I want to see come back to middle school sports. As a parent of one of the Jacksboro kids, we went to every meet, and enjoyed the sportsmanship between the teams all year. In football and basketball, there was a heated rivalry as normal. But, with the track team, there still was the rivalry, but sportsmanship ruled the day. I think the kids looked at the idea that next year they are going to be team-mates and got know each other pretty well. I think one thing that helped this idea of sportsmanship was the two coaches. At every meet, you could see the LaFollette coach cheering on a Jacksboro runner and vice-versa. They set the standard as I saw it. This made it easy for the parents to jump in a cheer on the other team, even when the parents may have not known the kid from the other school. We know most of the kids from LaFollette as Taylor has played little league with these guys for years, and that made it easy for us to cheer for them. I think I would rather see the kind of camaraderie that was shown by both schools towards one another instead of sending dead flowers to each other. Sorry to disagree with you, rivalry is a good thing also, but sportsmanship made it a very fun track season. I have gotten to know Reid, Lucas and Garrett through the track season. We have known Keenan for many years. All these kids will come up and greet us like old friends as we will do also when we see them. Taylor had been thinking of going to AC, but after creating a friendship with these guys through track and basketball a bit, he is now looking forward to being team-mates with these guys next year at CC. All-in-all, track was a great experience for the kids and I think the parents as well.

i know both you guys and know how competitive you both are and it does my heart good to hear ooops read this from you. you both know i'm a football mom, but i have tried to tell my kids and others that for support and friends there is always something about track, it isn't gender restricted so you have a true community representation and the kids do so well with each other and for each other.

track is a different kind of competition from basketball and football. It is much easier for sportsmanshhip to rule the day. In fact when I ran high school track(sadly there was no middle school track then) I was always in competition with myself as much or more than anybody else.
