UWA RESULTS
Two championships changed hands, the Daltons found themselves in a steel cage with Death Row, and Billy Marshall ended his wrestling career at the UWA Arena on Thursday, December 28, at the Green Acres Flea Market in Alcoa, Tennessee.
Jeff Anderson defended the Southern championship against Robbie Race in a No-Disqualification match. Initially, Anderson had the advantage by having Dr. Tom Prichard in his corner. General Manager Big Al evened the odds by forcing Prichard to be handcuffed to Ricky Morton. During the match, a pair of brass knuckles was thrown into the equation, resulting in Anderson and Race relentlessly bludgeoning one another with the foreign object. By the end of the match, both wrestlers were wearing a crimson mask of blood. The contest reached its climax when Race backed Anderson into the ring corner and went for the sunset flip. However, Anderson was not flipped over due to being grabbed by Prichard for the save. Morton quickly intervened and decked Prichard. Without Prichard to hold him, Anderson was unable to maintain his balance and was rolled up by Race for the three-count. It looked as if tears were mixing with the blood on Race’s face as he triumphantly embraced his newly obtained Southern championship.
The Daltons (Chris and Jason) now know what it’s like to be incarcerated with criminals. The siblings battled the Death Row Inmates (Willie B. Badd and Jason Maxx) in a steel cage. The two teams battered each other with chairs, and used the cage as a grinding weapon whenever possible. Steel did not decide the match, but a table did. DRI manager Scotty Hanson was ambushed on the outside by Jerry Lee. The Dalton’s manager, Danny Ray, and Lee slid a table into the cage. Badd applied the Death Valley Driver to Chris Dalton in the cage, while Hanson recovered on the outside and chased away Lee and Ray with a chair. Jason Dalton set up the table, and then climbed on top of Maxx in the corner. Badd snuck up behind Jason Dalton and soon had the man hoisted up in the air in a power-bomb fashion. Maxx jumped off the top rope and caught Jason Dalton with a clothesline, causing Jason Dalton to go through the table. Maxx covered the motionless Jason Dalton for the 1-2-3.
The UWA Television title was on the line as the champion, Travis Sawyer, wrestled challenger Eric Adams. Sawyer appeared to have the match under control until Jerry Lee came to the ring and distracted the Television champion. Lee’s appearance helped turn the tide as Adams made an impressive comeback. Sawyer was unable to stop Adams’ offense, giving the challenger the chance to roll up the champion for the pin. After the show, Adams celebrated his Television championship victory with his former tag partner, Robbie Race, who had that night won the Southern championship.
Billy Marshall has been wrestling for 17 years and recently decided to retire from in-ring competition. Marshall’s last match in the UWA was against former tag team partner Jerry Lee. The match did not end fairly as Lee used brass knuckles to knock out Marshall. Lee covered Marshall for the win via pin. After the match, several UWA wrestlers came out and saluted Marshall for his years of service in the independent promotions. Marshall was visibly shaken and told the wrestlers he appreciated their respect. Marshall gave special thanks to Jeff Anderson, “The Boss” Terry Wright, and Jerry Lee.
Tracy Smothers and Ricky Morton battled Dr. Tom Prichard and Donovan Daniels. Daniels was wearing a dress due to losing a stipulation match, along with Jim Miller, a few weeks ago against the Heat Seekers. The dress was Daniels’ downfall as Morton pulled the dress over his head. The blinded Daniels was caught with a spear by Smothers. Daniels was stunned by the move and Smothers covered him for the 1-2-3.
Jim Miller (who was also wearing a dress) grappled Shane Andrews. Miller won the contest with a great deal of assistance from Charles Long and Donovan Daniels. Referee Hollywood Jack was distracted by Daniels while Long and Miller double-teamed Andrews. When Hollywood Jack turned around, the damage had already been done as the battered Andrews laid on the mat. Miller pinned Andrews and celebrated shamelessly by taking sole credit for the win.
Rip O’Kelley, Lance Stark, and Shane Williams won over Deal Or No Deal (Mike Ogle, “The Boss” Terry Wright, and Sirus), managed by Commissioner Ray Vandal. The match ended when Williams caught “The Boss” with a cross-body for the three-count.
Menace, Bob Wyre, and Bobbie Rayne were involved in a three-way Street Fight match. Menace took the win by pin fall after giving Bob Wyre a packaged pile driver on a trash can.
Dillinger won over Dave Pillman.
