What are they now 20-0? That is impressive on any level.

How do these teams stack up with some of the Owls undefeated teams of the past? I had a chance to play against the undefeated team that had Bubba Miller, David Hopson and that crew on it. They had a great squad that year. I hadn't had a chance to watch this years team, but I've heard alot of good things about them. Good luck to all of the county teams that are participating in their tournaments. I hadn't had a chance to watch them all season, but went to the district games. They wouldn't match up well at all. It is a two man show with a few good role players. They play hard, but have lapses on the offensive end. Their D is actually not very good at all. The main reason for winning is the gigantic kid (who I was told is a year older than everyone else) and the point guard dribbles (who I was told is also a year older than everyone else) around until he gets a shot, and it's not always a good one. I think you could shut them down with a 1-3-1 defense with a couple of big guys in the game. Offensively, could beat them with just moving the basketball around and getting up and down the court. The big guy doesn't like to run.

If Lucas(the point guard) is a year older I'd like to know when he stayed back. I have actually been covering him since he played at West LaFollette and he seems to be where he should be.

t2.......You know...if anyone knows me on this board...knows I usually speak my mind. I having coached a few years...would do things differently... BUT! Our boys have worked very hard for their 20-0 record! You came to one game..against Jacksboro! Everyone knows the rivalry game between those two....changes every aspect of the game and how it is played! One team could be #1 and the other #10 and the #10 team would play like they were also a #1. You can't come judge the Owls on one game! ( against Jacksboro ) If you want to compare notes come support them every game. Then we can take what you have to say...as knowledgeable comparisons. Football.........check Basketball......check Track.............. ;D

Kids repeat early grades all the time (which happened in these cases) I don't know why you are calling attention to that. I'm sure that there were several kids thoroughout this district that were the same age. That is not unique. If you saw the same game I saw last night, it WAS NOT a two man show! It was a great team effort as it has been all year. In case you didn't notice Luke or Lukus was not the high scores last night so that dispells that theory. Sounds like some sour grapes from a Jacksboro fan. Why can't everyone get behind this team? You can't be 20-0 without some talent! GO OWLS

The big guy doesn't like to run. Just for clarification, the "giant kid" didn't have over 10 points the whole tourny, and there are strict age rules to prevent older kids from playing. Learn your facts. Secondly, the "two man show" really shows your ignorance, because we had another player score 12 and 20 the last two games, Once again showing your ignorance. And about 12 of the 20 wins came against teams who tried a 1-3-1 and that didn't work either. Ignorance is becoming common. And as for having the big kid, Jacksboro has one just as tall and another about a half inch taller. You made a good attempt to knock down a great team, but simply made yourself sound ignorant, so next time you speak of this team, I hope it would we a congratulatory statement and nothing else.

Yeah, maybe those people that doesn't consider it a sport can show us how to hold someone that weighs more than you over your head in the palm of your hand. Or they can show us how to do all of those back hand springs?? You think?

as stated earlier 20-0 is 20-0 regardless of what comparisons one makes...20-0 is quite an accomplishment at teh middle school level ..."anything -0" is an quite an accomplishment at teh middle school level, especiallysince teh formation of the TMSAA...comparing is fun, makes for good conversation, but seldom if ever solidifies one's opinion...
on another note, as far as two of teh owls players being a year older than most other players, how many "hold backs" did those other great owls teams have, which would mean that not only did they have a years age on the other kids but a years experience at that level of competition... I do know that while coaching at JMS (football) we did have some kids "stay back for an additonal 8th grade year and it made a wold of difference in most cases...

I have no problems with hold backs...if the rules allow it...so be it!

With the TMSAA the rules state that to play a certain sport, you can not play if you turn 15 before a certain date. If they fail or are held back lets say in 6th grade then they can not play the next year, but would be eligilble the following season assuming they still meet the age requirements & academic requirements. Thanks to the TMSAA there can not be any wrong doings going on...so whats the big deal? I watched the championship game the other night, it was everything a championship game should be, exciting from start to finish.....congrats to both teams!
