*I want to know what everyone thinks about the skate park?
I never had an opinion about it until today!!!! My 8 yr. old son had a basketball game at the Rec Center today. My husband had to work. Everything went fine....so as the game gets over a couple boys come and tell my son....(8th grader at LMS) that there is about 6 "skaters" going to jump him when he comes out. Well, there were actually about 10! Ends up being because he's a football player....My son stood there and didn't say a word..I told him not to! I done all the talking!!!!!! So my opinion now is...Where the crap is their parents??? Is the skate park their babysitter? The police officer that came told my son...."You just remember in 10 years from now when you are successful and have a family and a nice home...they will be in the back of my squad car!"
You know it is very hard to keep your cool when there is someone that is threatening one of your kids! No matter their age! Because I was ready to GO! I think if kids can stand in your face (10 of them) and talk like an adult....they should be treated like one! That is one of the problems these days...kids with guns and no respect what so ever for adults! That is sad...just because my son is a football player and they are ..I guess jealous obviously.....of him......Where are the parents?? I have a 18 yr old in College and I know where he's at!

all skaters and their parents arent "bad eggs"...I am not taking up for them by any means...you gave your son great advice...they apparently found safety in numbers...I would venture to say that your son could kick their asses (oops...sorry) anyway... but if there was an officer of the law there why didnt he corral them up and hold them until their parents came by to get them...he does have the authority to do so... again, you displayed good parenting skills (just like I know you do)..

Oh, he was pretty hot...but he done what I said..and stood there and kept his mouth shut. I will venture to say that if one of them got any closer to me...he would have!!! I do know that you can't judge them all by the ones that were there......and the guy that is over the skate park...don't know his name...did tell the officer that he would close it down for the evening but the officer opted not to. I guess this keeps them all in one place for law to find!!! But as far as the parents....I can't excuse them..I have to blame them...you know when your kids goes out of the house looking like satan's brother....should be a sign!

I agree with what you told your son, if he had went at those boys it would have been even worse so it's a good thing he didn't. I really think they should keep a better watch on those boys when there is a bunch of them out there like that.

I just want to say..That I don't say all skaters are bad just because of what happened today. But I will say....All the kids I did see there today....that were all gathered round wanting and waiting to fight...have NO respect for anyone...and I'm sure not even their parents! But that's where respect starts!~ At home...The police officer was ready to take them all because they didn't even have the respect for the law to stand and listen! I just don't get it....they open a skate park for kids to hang out without supervision? Who is watching them? I would never allow mine to do that.

I agree Vixen (yes i said agree)...To me the skate park is a lawsuit waiting to happen...if a kid gets hurt there without supervision...who knows...the county could be in a big legal battle!

The litigation issue is not as bad as you would think. Most municipalities that have one have a waver system and very regulated hours of operation. The city of Louisville just deafened a lawsuit. A settlement was offered by the city, the plaintiff smelled big payday and went to court. The city deflected it. The city still shut down the skate parks, but that was due to the areas being used for drug deals and lewd behavior.

Just a bunch of kids causing trouble! NO supervision what so ever! Kids just allowed to harass people as they leave the Rec Center.

There are places like this in Compton and the Bronx where the people (kids or young adults) are allowed to act however they choose. I can attest that nothing good has ever came out of those places. Law enforcement officials don't dare enter there for fear of their own life. Is this the road we are traveling down. Maybe the comparison is extreme but I am sure that is what they said about those two places. These kids have even stole some of the skatepark equipment and the Rec representative didn't know where it was. I am sure that everyone here knows that we have some wanna be gangs in CC. How long will it take? To quote Barney Fife "we need to nip it, nip it in the bud" and I don't mean after this has happened in a more severe manner.
