The Lady Cougars sure could use her this year with Sierra not playing. I remember her playing since she was little, and she always had my respect.

Great insight on what is really important to children ... except for a gifted few, sports end at the high school level.. at least on a organized team. unless you count rec league ball. education will take you many more miles down the road. than any long jump shot you hit to win a game................................................................................ glory day memories don't get you a career!!. they get you a job............ BIG DIFFERENCE>>>

i know most of the althetes in the cc system .... and know most of their parents even better .... all of the parents i know are very involved in their child's education and put that first. the admins and coaches (in all sports) value education as well ..... fortunately most of the athletes at cchs are in ap classes .. so that speaks for itself....

Interesting responses. I enjoy good dialog. Remember, unless you have an all state athlete. there are very few full ride athletic scholarships out there. Colleges are looking for academically strong student athletes, with act scores in the mid 20's, sat scores in the same range. These scores will get them academic money and possible athletic money, depending on the school. Strong academics along with good athletics is what we need to strive for with our student athletes. They can go on and play a sport in college and get an education that will last a life time.

PLus a good athlete can walk on a college team and earn a scholarship but won't be able to without good academics. Every team I played for stressed that we had to do good in the classroom to play on the field.

you are very right, i grounded a certain athlete you guys know and is currently in the middle of all this for 6 mos. for a bad grade in early middle school. apparently he was talking to a girl and not doing homework. a little pointer love has screwed up a lot of athletes academically and athletically.

I walked on the UT track team and though I never got a full ride I did get some money. I am proud of my time there.
