anyone who transfers (especially in the middle of teh season) needs to be shown the door so he/she doesnt get lost... what ever happened to decication to teh program and school pride/spirit (as well as standing byyour eammates)!!! players should play for teh love fo teh game, whether they like teh coach or not!!! has anyone approached coach pierce about these "problems"? I would enture to say "probably not"... maybe that is where you will find the answers to the problems...afterall he is at practice everyday and could enlighten us all about why certain things happen with certain players... I intend to see him monday at school and pass along your complaints in case you dont have time!!!

If a player is wantong to transfer at the end of the semester...and people already know about it...He should be asked to turn in his uniform already..IMO....if he doesnt want to finish the yr with the team....he shouldnt be playing now!!!

Lets all name talented players who left the system (or school) in the past 15 years or so, for many of the same reasons posted here. If not names, anyone have a guess as to the number of folks? And the contrast of opinions is striking. We have a post to allow the same "type" folks to return to coach here. It would seem that some are talking out of both sides of their mouth(s).
(or I may have some names of posters mixed up)
The administration (high School) could care less about athletics. That has been proven for many years now and well before the CCHS days. Any parent will do what they think is in the best interest of their child, and why not? Does anyone think they have the children's best interest at heart?
Comments??

I asked said player directly if the rumors were true. He said that he was thinking more strongly about it when the tension between Pierce and the players/parents was more heated. As of right now he said he is just tryin to focus more on basketball since things have kind of cooled down, but that the thought was still there. This is a smart kid and I know that he wants to do anything he can to help the team, but at the same time you cant expect someone with that much talent to just stick around. He is a total team player though and asking him right now to turn in his jersey wouldnt be the best thing to do at this point IMO. I think the coaches just need to take a step back and look at what it is they are doing wrong or lack of work all together. Asking a kid to turn his jersey in right now is a little harsh. Maybe if he was causing a disrruption, but I cant see that from this guy.

If I am a coach and I have heard that a kid is planning on transfering, I ask the kid if its true...if the kid says yes...I ask him to go ahead and turn in the uniform....It should have never been made public if the kid is thinkin of transfering....that should be beteween himself and his parents!!!

I hear you Peach, Seale managed in three years to destroy a once great sports program at LMS. When my older son played there existed school sprit, coaches worked to get large crowds in the gyms and on fields. Games were on radio, replays on TV. Info in paper. It went down hill fast, now it appears they are allowing him to work his magic at CCHS. The last game I attended you could get the crowd in the rec center gym. I do not blame any parent for looking out for their child. I wish I had some decisions to make over myself.

I am the parent of said athlete. You all have your opinion, here's mine. Corey has two younger brothers that will attend this school system also. It is clear that this county holds grudges and that the children pay. I feel I have no choice. Corey ran at 6am every morning then went to school then to football, at night he went and practiced basketball against ALL coaches wishes. He is more dedicated to basketball than anything even if it is not his best sport. He gives everything he has in every game. Last year at Catholic he head butted with another teammate and was very wozy, he still played. He split his face open in the Powell game which need 10 stitches and a specialist in facial stitches had to fix him up, he not only continued in the game with tape on his face but was at school the next morning with only 2 hours sleep. He runs in the summer, practices football and plays basketball while mowing and weedeating for money to buy his own school clothes. He has never in three years missed a basketball, track, or football practice. There is not one coach who says Corey does not work hard. He has never missed a day in school EVER. He gets good grades and is active in his christian faith. He started every varsity game last year and played the whole game without a break most games. Now because of my conversation with Jim Pierce, my dissatififaction in Coreys treatment, and Mike Reynolds quitting, Corey not only hardly gets to play this year but he is taking the place of 5 or 6 freshman that has already practiced and played in games who were kicked off the team for some reason and now at least two juniors are playing JV. Corey needs a lot more practice in his ball handling skills so I am sure that is their excuse but those skills were OK last year when he started every game. Corey has done everything this school system has asked of him.He wants to play ball here. He wants to stay with his team. He seriously thinks he can make a change. It is my fault that he "may" leave. His other two brothers will not get the same experience this county has given Corey. They will not be here. If the school and Administration would stand up for all the kids with as much dedication that Corey has shown in the last 12 years then maybe we would be more successful in graduation rates, test scores, academics, and the athletic programs. Then maybe the Jodi Wrights and some of the others who left would come back to contribute to this county to make it better. I am only a parent doing what is best for all her children. Nothing is concrete except that the younger children will be leaving, so please stay off Coreys back and if you have a beef with me most people know how to contact me.

We understand your friendship with Pierce. We understand your support no matter what. I respect that. Talking it out sure sounds warm and fuzzy, but you know as well as I do you can not talk to that guy. All he is interested in is trying to intimidate you if you ask a question. Same response when you try to voice an opinion. That is why he is supported by Seale and why he remains there. They are one in the same. I tried to discuss the coaching situation with Seale at LMS a few years back and all he was interested in was telling me why I was wrong and how he knew best. Then trying to talk to central office, that was a joke, cause they put those people in those positions, so of course they had to pretend to support them and act like they were doing a good job or they admit they screwed up.
I had sons who either had played or was playing at LMS. But he (seale) knew more than i did even though I was around the program for years (on and off) and he just came through the door.
If we were talking about professional people it would be one thing to consider just talking, but I support the "Cougar Mom". Until they clean house one needs to do what is best for their child. Do not wait for them to correct the situation, I am still waiting and too late for my sons.
I ask you Peblee, name any school, anywhere around where this sort of stuff is allowed to go on? Name any school that looses good player after good player year after year? As someone said "up the page" name some folks, well I can name student after student we lost in high school because taking care of a "buddy" was more important than doing the right thing for our children.

I remeber when it was easy to get info on LaFollette sports. I think it is starting to turn that way again. Something must be wrong on top to cause school spirit to be so low. I don't know how things are done up there anymore, nor do I have any desire to be up there during school hours to find out. I would like some info as to what exactly you think is causing the lack of school spirit.

I have to say I wouldn't overly blame the athlete in question for leaving either. He has been more dedicated to Cougar sports than most. I'd love to see him go where he is more appreciated.

I can say that everything she has said about Cory is 100% true! My kids and Corey have played many sports together. Everyone knows that if you say something here...speak your mind.... that your kids are going to pay the price. That is the only way adults..can pay you back through your kid! Because a coach DOES control the destination of ones life. And I think it is a bunch of bull about the coach asking for the jersey back because a kid might transfer! I have 8 kids and believe you me...if it was easy to pick up 8 kids and move for their own benefit...would have been gone!!! What does CC have to offer here in this county? Meth? I dare anyone to stand and tell me because I as a parent am not a team player!!! ....My kids come FIRST! DON'T care who I hurt in the process! My kids will always come first. You know when I chose to have kids..8 at that...I took on that responsibility...to do my best that they will have the best! And if that hurts a someones feeling...oh, well!!! That's one thing wrong with this county...Take care of your OWN!!!! Because someday when your old and gray.....all those people that don't give a darn about you ..where will they be....not around! But who will be there...your kids!!!!!!

I intend to see him monday at school and pass along your complaints in case you dont have time!!! Pebley, first of all, I completely understand team spirit/pride. I completely believe in standing behind your teammates. If the player has a problem then usually, he/ she should stick it out and wait til the end of the season and just not start back the next year if he/she doesnt agree with something the coach is doing. But thats only most of the time. In this case, you need to take a look at whats goin on an who the player is. You cant just generalize what should be done. Corey is a Very dedicated player, I know because ive played on teams with him on more than one occasion. He would not just transfer to make a scene or to draw attention to himself. I agree, you should play for the love of the game, not whether or not you like the coach. But in this case if the coach is being immature an not playing the player because he is a baby then how can the player still enjoy to play? Its completely different if the player doesnt like the coach then if the coach doesnt like the player. Ive played for many coaches i havent liked an sucked it up an played because i loved the game. An im sure that the whole boys team is doing that right now. But when the coach has something against you then you are more than likely gonna get screwed over. So next time lets assess everything instead of trying to act like you know whats goin on.

I honestly dont blame you. Ive talked to a couple parents and it sounds like Pierce is punishing the parents that have talked to him in a nice polite manner by benching their kid. That man has issues and the county dont care. Best of luck to you AND all your kids in the new school system and I for one will back yall.
