OK, I want to make it perfectly clear that Im not going to bash the women's team or say that guys are better than girls. Personally I dont really care for womens basketball but its only because the game isnt fast enough for me. I hated watchin the guys when Buzz was here because it was like watching the grass grow.
Here is my question, Candace Parker executed her third dunk in her young Tennessee career Sunday against UTC. My question is this, why is she gettin so much publicity from the local media about it??? It was by no means a Michelle Snow dunk, and she didnt do it consecutively like she did against Army last year in the tourney.
I will give her credit, I can grab rim, but I cant put a ball through, so she is better than me there. All I'm saying is, Michelle Snow practically ripped the rim off with her dunk in Hawaii, why are people so amazed when Parker barely gets it through? Yea, its impressive, but I dont think it deserved the attention that it got.

I agree. Her dunks, while better than anything I could possibly do, aren't very convincing. If she is gonna dunk she needs to really dunk it.

no, they are not dunks....glorified layups..maybe....I think they are getting attention becouse she "dunked" in a half court set last yr! I also forgt about Michelle Snow dunking, I believe she did it against Vandy to. She might have walked about a mile but it was a cool lookin dunk!

I saw Candice at the Bowl the other day practicing her "dunk". I believe that ae2 said it best with his description. Once she lays the ball over, grabs the rim and pops it real good for effect. Don't get me wrong, she is an awesome womens athlete, but she should leave the dunking to the fellas.

You guys are saying about what I was thinking. If she is going to try the dunk, she needs to flush it with authority like Snow did. So what if she walks, that was a better dunk than I ever saw CJ Watson do, not dissing Watson or anything, but I only speak the truth.

Speaking of dunks, did anyone see Duke Crews rip the rim off the board with a dunk??? Geez Oh Pete, that was terrific.

if teh backboard shakes, its a rippper... even teh guys she was competing against stood up and went kinda crazy... if it is a quick down she (teh ball) goes right through the hoop with authority it is a ripper... of course the opinion/definition of a ripper can vary from person to person.. any pics of that particular dunk??? just curious...

The backboard is going to shake anytime the rim is broken down, so you cant really go on that as a qualification as a ripper. The guys did that because she isnt all that bad looking first of all, and then for her to have the guts to get out there and try it, and make it, yea, I would have done the same thing. Personally I havent seen her put the ball in with authority. All Ive ever witnessed is she puts the ball in and then just grabs rim on the way down, more or less a glorified layup.
are you asking for pics of her dunk against UTC this past Sunday???
Like I said, Im not ripping Candace or her game, I believe she is the most talented female athlete at this point in time. I just dont think that her "dunks" deserve the attention that they are getting.

I couldn't agree more than with your last sentence there bruce. I saw her the other day by herself in the bowl and she did the same thing, layed the ball in and then grab the rim on the way down. Don't get me wrong, most women playing the game can't even achieve that, but for the press to do flips over her "dunks", really is kinda silly.

I must agree that she hasnt really dunked with authority...a two handed "stuffaroo" would or shuld be teh type of dunk that gets all teh attention that she gets...I suppose it is good hype for teh womens game... I would like to see pics of all her dunks thus far.... has any one seen her dunk anytime besides game time... I understand that coach summitts rule is that if you try to dunk you better make it and not look bad by missing ... but overall I must agree with you...

Have seen Candice at the Tommybowl by herself shooting and messing around. Saw a few dunks and they were the same as all the other ones. Lay the ball over and grab the rim on the way down. Still a pretty awsome achievement for a young woman. Forget about her trying to dunk anyway, this girl can shoot lights out. Saw her make so many in a row from all over the floor and lost count of her makes. Would have been easier to keep track of her misses.

Sounds like a bunch of player haters on here; if it takes a two handed dunk to count as a dunk then more than half of Michael Jordan's dunks didnt count. gimme a break, we are in Tennessee so of course our local press is going to cover it. The national media didnt go crazy over this one because she did it twice last year. Big blue u must be a KY fan, we will kick your ass in two weeks & i will kick yours personally!! Really mature comments there, johnny.
