Ah the 9th grader held back for sports puposes in the sixth grade ;D It's nice to know that the enemy sleeps in the same tent you do!But sometimes that's a good thing! I would guess this person...has something behind his remark... and is to wuss to say! I have a really good guess!!!! You know one of the things that some people lack in this county? If you don't know it...don't act like you do!

I love hold-backs...my sollution will be to start my child at age 6 rather than 5 when/if I have one. Kids that graduate as 16 and 17 year-olds are not ready for college or work. I graduated at 19...I turned in April and graduated in May. I had a friend that was 19 in Aug. just barely made the eligibility deadline. Why not stay back for sports purposes...it only helps academically due to the added maturity. I agree it is a low-blow to say that in an underhanded way...but keeping one's child's best interest in mind is perfectly fine with me. Since when is hold back a dirty word anyway? I can think of a well know coach that had a few in his hay day not to mention any names. Up here in Corbin the kids call it redshirting. There is simply a huge difference in 16/17 and 18/19. At the middle school level there is also a huge difference in 13 and 14. Thumbs up to any parent smart enough to hold their child or start them on time rather than early.

Thank You Very Much! Redhound
Teams are just that..Teams! And my son will be the first to tell you that he's just a (part) of that team. It takes all parts to make a successful whole. And maturity comes with age! I have a son that is a freshman in college..been to a lot of football games...do you know how many teams through the years that the players drove to their middle school games?..literally! Some do abuse the issue! My daughter was never held back and is a year older than most of her peers just because she missed the deadline by one month to start school. And she can kick most guys butt at anything you can throw at her...lol Is that fair? Not because she's a girl..lol..but because her age is as if she was held back~

I have some regrets about not staying back in middle school. I might have played high school ball if I did.

Ah the 9th grader held back for sports puposes in the sixth grade ;D What a cheap shot! Isn't that a wonderful way to treat a STUDENT-athlete by an anonymous and gutless alleged educator. You should be ashamed.

LMS Teach, my suggestion is to put your keyboard away or in the back of your vehicle and don't look back! You ask any coach in any sport about Keenan and the result will be the same. I am glad he plays or participates for me rather than against me. Over the years coaches have came from as far away as Oliver Springs to try to get him to play baseball for them. South Clinton coaches wanted him to play with their football team when he played little league. Even coach Heatherly took notice when he was at Jacksboro coaching basketball. Holding a kid back is the smartest thing a parent can do in my opinion. Mental maturity and physical ability are just two of the pluses, both help not only the individual but the team in which they are participating on. Just for the record, my seven year old was given the choice of which grade he will be held back in. If you want to know the outcome check back in about five years. I may not be the smartest individual but I am trying to give my kids the best opportunity for success. The extra year also helps in the classroom as well as their leadership ability. Enough explaining, I take this as a personal attack on my child. As mentioned earlier, grow you some or borrow some from somebody and introduce yourself to everyone, it would simplify things considerably. To all others thank you for your respect concerning this matter.

I would not regard it as a cheap shot...simply a poor misinformed teacher. Make no mistake there are not any nobel or pulitzer prize winners in our school system...this guy is an idiot, and so is anyone that will deny that an extra year of maturity helps athletics, leadership, academically, soically, and any other way one can carve out of a student athlete. It is really comical to sit and watch what goes on in CC from the outside!!!

I think it sucks that the LMS Basketball coach is forcing the JV football boys to have basketball practice and not let them attend the playoff game......that is just being a jerk.

Those kids worked hard too and JV is a big part of varsity success. They are the ones getting beat on to help the varsity improve.
