I wish you and your program the best. I'd love to see Jellico become a contender

That's all any of us can do. Do you have any assistant coaches right now?

Yes Sir, I do. Bryan Partin and Vince Vanette will be returning this coming season. Bryan is a born & bred Blue Devil and Coach Vince played linebacker for Northwestern Bible College in Minnesota.

I agree to a point. When I was at Jacksboro I tried to scrimmage the toughest teams possible. Oak Ridge Robertsville was the toughest around that was not on our schedule, then thier was Oneida. The point that I am trying to make is that maybe you should scrimmage the tough competition & maybe even schedule JMS or LMS but not both in the same season. You mentioned that you are coming off of two winless seasons, your kids need a chance to learn how to win first. Once they get some confidence rolling then they will feel like they can play with those teams, but right now the name Jacksboro would probably scare those guys. Im not trying to discourage you, just saying how I would probably go about it. Good luck in whatever you decide.

I agree beardencoach, and once those boys start to learn how to win, it becomes contagious and you will see marked improvement.

Last season we had a great time in Jacksboro's passing league. We also scrimmaged LaFollette at their house and the only scared off one 6th grade guard. We scrimmaged Huntsville and Fairview and hung in with them pretty well. We scrimmaged Robbins and the boys didn't have their heads in the game. I have not yet figured out what scares they guys. We played a whole lot better against the big boys like LaFollette and Fairview than they did against smaller teams like Robbins and Burchfield. It seems to me like they play to the level of their competition. If that is the case I would prefer the competition to be on LaFollette's level.

I think JES football is on the right track. They have a coach with a positive attitude. Something some of you on this board could use.

Agreed Pat, the only way to get better is to play better competition. Keep it up devilcoach and you will eventually reap the benefits.
And pressman, I guess you think that you could do better, right? I don't think your statement was really necessary was it?

I agree you do want to play good competition, but you dont want to go out & hang yourself. When I was the coach at JMS we beat Jellico 60-0 in 2001 & honestly didnt try to run the score up. Everyone on our team played, the staff at Jellico thanked us for not trying to run it up. Our starter only played one series in the 2nd half. I know alot of the parents in Jellico seeing as how my dads side of the family is from there & I went to elementary school there, they told me that thier kids were dreading that game & as a parent they were also & that was the season opener for both teams. From what you have said about the support there not much has changed....that is why I suggested only scheduling one the teams until they learn how to win. Good luck

It is tough to build a program...and having winless seasons is tougher. When you do play a better team it can benefit, but if it is just another one of 8-9 losses it really hurts morale...good luck though.

Wow. I turn my back for one minute and I have a knife in it. I own a printshop in Jellico so it's kind of ironic that a pressman is giving me a hard time. First, we're Jellico Elementary, not Tennessee and I don't want play Notre Dame. Second, I got this job when a school board member told me that if I didn't coach them there'd be no foot ball in Jellico. I didn't ruin the program, I'm trying to rebuild it. Third. Both Jacksboro and LaFollette have really good programs. The Pressman is acting like I'm trying to schedule Maryville High. I'm just going to ask them if they want to play. If we're not competition they'll say no. I won't cry or anything. And then. I'm not looking for beatings. If that were the case, I'd schedule Whitley County. They're huge and rulebooks are illegal in Kentucky. So I'm not stupid and if you imply that I am we're gonna have a problem. And lastly. We're always accepting qualified volunteer assistant coaches. If the pressman would like to show us how it's done, get in the car and come on. I'm not Knute, or Phil or Madden. I'm just a coach trying to make a bad program better. The "You'll never be good" attitude is how we got to the place we're at now. I'm going to do whatever I can to turn that around even though there'll be plenty of people trying to drag us down. Have a nice day.
