I'm a neutral observer in the CC Basketball situation. In other words, I don't have a dog in the hunt. But with that said, Coaches must be able to coach and we must trust their judgment in decision making during practice and games, techniques they use to teach players, strategies they employ during the course of the season, decisions on playing time, and most importantly, they are teaching our sons and daughters the aspect of fair play, team chemistry, and the character that it takes to become a productive citizen in our society. In no way should a coach cross the line, and break a student-athlete's spirit. Yes, he or she as a coach should have stern discipline with the team and the issue of fairness should be employed at all times in dealing with discipline issues. I have no idea why the young men at CCHS chose to leave their basketball team. But, if parental pressure is being applied at the coach over playing I feel that the Parents are wrong in this situation. Again you must trust the coaches decision with this element of the game. If this indeed is the trouble, I can only hope the administration at CCHS will back the coach in this situation. If not, every coach in the county will be held hostage by parents if disgruntled over playing time. The key element we need to remember that sports will hopefully teach or son or daughter the characteristics to be successful later in life. Again this only my opinion. What do you think?

4 of the seven had all the playing time they needed. why does that keep coming up as a reason they quit??? they quit because the coach was vindictive and the asst. coach was giving preferential treatment. Discipline was not applied equally to all. The coach will not talk to the kids. they tried to talk to one coach and was benched. they went to seale and pierce to try and get everyone together to work it out and they would not. the coach told them to go home and tell their parents to kiss his a##. the kids in the end do love their parents. I am a parent who never one time complained about playing time to the coach and my son did not play. Pierce refuses to talk to parents for any reason. I have heard him personaaly ssay so when one parent asked what they could do last year to get his kid some help in the off season. it's not about talent or playing time or parent interference but after two years of crap I will not stand by and let my son play for someone who he gave everything for, Both Pierce's, and let pierce intimidate or try and get him to divide his loyalty between coach and parent. Build the kids up, not down. no one is still listening.

I think everyone has heard both sides...cant we just move on...this now a moot case until higher authorities decide to take action whatever action/nonaction that may be...

a moot point? Just let higher authorities take care of it? Higher authority won't do anything about Pierce or the boys. They care about nothing except keeping everything calm and quiet until they retire. Lets get the kids in and out in calm quiet manner and do not cause much distrubtion. Don't draw any attention to ourselves and blame everybody else. Isn't that what our politics have always done in CC? It'll all go away soon. right?? So how in the world does this help CC and the growing problems in our county. Does anyone care about the grad rate this year with the senior class??? We have to do something on both sides so that this does not continue. It's not about basketball people. Let's fix problems instead of passing them along or letting authorities who don't do anything handle it. I do not have any answers. but all sides deserve better from the administration, school board, superintendant, and the community.

I have a simple solution then ccfan, run for office. We can go around here for months on end and it will come to nothing. I on the other hand bring it on myself by not voting....lol...j/k. zooker is the voter registration police in cc. I agree that something has to be done but they have the power for now.

my son started every game last year. he has been playing in campbell county sports his whole life and has never ever been told by a coach he wasn't good enough. he plays harder than anyone. pierce even called me on the phone last year and talked to me for 30 mins about what a great son and athletic he was. i personally talked with seale and j.pierce and they would not set up a meeting to discuss these problems as di pierce or green. it's not backstabbing, talking was tried with the players before the kids quit. kids wanted to wuit after mitton was kicked off but us parents made them stay. your right, it was all my fault. attitude reflects leadership. it had nothing to do with palying time

Believe it or not he is not the only kid Pierce has ever called and talked about. And nice quote from "remember the titans".

I liked the quote because it's so true. Pierce does call about other players too, but my point was that he was willing to talk to me without me approaching him but later when my kid needed to talk he wouldn't. If he cared about his players he should be aware of the morale on the team. I have never talked to him about playing time or his philosophy, but I do question some vindictive tactics he uses. My kid has heart as do the others,.and the new cougars are just as important than the old. Still my heart goes out to the freshman he cut for know reason. They never even had a chance to play but 1 or 2 games. they had enough to let them play JV so that the new cougs could concentrate on Varsity.

You saying Pierce is vindictive is laughable after what was done to him. I just dont get it, he is the coach so why cant he cut who he thinks should be cut??

I'm football coach in a basketball discussion but my best "athlete" this past season got very few carries and not as much playing time as he would have liked due to attitude. He was a pretty smart kid but he didn't understand one term. "Team". If your best athlete is toxic to your team, something's got to be done about that. Sometimes you can't change the kid so you have to alter his (or her) role for the good of the team. I don't know about the rest of the coaches, but I hate to cut anyone. I'd love to be able to have a spot for everyone who wants one. It doesn't work that way. The Team has to come first or the Team's gonna come in last.

The freshman were cut because green would not coach the JV at first and shouse was going to have to coach the freshman and JV but with green getting the JV supplement. The reason for the freshman to get cut had nothing to do with basketball. So when this was found out instead of making green do the job he was paid to do after one freshman game they cut the freshman and put juniors on the jv. Then shouse was out after one game and they MADE green coach the JV. Attitude had nothing to do with it. Every coach has always said that most of these kids have to the biggest heart. They quit to bring out a bigger problem here. To break a kids spirit is not a coaches job. To demoralize kids is not a coaches job. playing time was not an issue. that is just a political agend to keep the admin and coach from realizing they screwed up in handling the problems inside the team by ignoring everything. when 8 kids quit a game all at once something is wrong. the admin is trying to disguise that by saying its the parents and playing time. Everybody here knows how well CC covers up messes.

You must have gotten your information from the Rev. Like everthing else your facts are wrong..The whole freshman mess would not even be an issue if reynolds had not walked out on the team. So called personal reason, when we know the real reason was the "fab 7" parents beathing down his neck (the rev and his BIG buddy) to become the head coach...People in Campbell County always get it wrong. Basketball will come and go but teaching kids to lie and decieve goes beyond playing the game.
